Rahul Rawail appointed as IFFI acting chairperson after Sujoy Ghosh quits
Rahul Rawail has been appointed as acting IFFI chairperson.
Six days after Sujoy Ghosh quit as chairperson of IFFI Indian Panorama section following the controversy over the removal of two films from the final selection, veteran director Rahul Rawail has been appointed as the acting chairperson.
Speaking exclusively to India Today, Rahul Rawail expressed his disappointment over Ghosh's decision to quit. He added that as per regulations, I&B Ministry can have final word.
Ghosh stepped down as the jury chief of Indian Panorama section after Malayalam movie S Durga and Marathi film Nude were removed from the festival.
The members expressed their distress over the removal of the two films "without any intimation, discussion or recourse to the jury which has the final say according to the Indian Panorama Regulations".
After Ghosh, writer Apurva Asrani , too, stepped down from the jury. Apurva, who has written Aligarh and Simran among others, told Indian Express, "My conscience won't allow me to participate in the festivities in Goa."
IFFI 2017 is about to kick start in Goa from November 20. Shah Rukh Khan along with Shahid Kapoor and Sridevi have already reached Goa to inaugurate the festival.
