New Delhi, May 4: Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Thursday said if Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi becomes Prime Minister then he will be a good PM. He told CNN-News 18 that there is a mismatch by the way he is projected in the media. ” I have seen him grow when he took over to now, he is very perceptive and open to ideas,” said Captain.
Praising Rahul Gandhi, the CM of Punjab said He is open to discussions and takes decisions, he stands by the decision. Singh called him a professional in the business of governance. He has done well and will do well, Captain on Rahul Gandhi. One day we will be a very fine leader of the country, Singh told the interviewer.
After this the interview asked him is he hinting towards Rahul becoming the PM, to this Singh replied,” I don’t think I will be here till then but if he (Rahul) gets the opportunity of becoming a PM then he will definitely take up the job.”
This is not the first time that Captain has spoken about the Gandhi descendant taking up a higher role in politics. In March, the second time CM of Punjab had said that now is the time for Congress vice president to take up the role of Congress chief. Singh had said that he had been repeating this statement since a year.
On April 16, in an interview to NDTV, when asked about what is not clicking with Rahul Gandhi, Singh replied, he is very perceptive and every party goes through a bad phase. Citing the example of 1984 elections, in which the Bharatiya Janata Party had won only 2 seats, Singh said he feels Rahul should be seen as a vice president of the Congress party and with his ideas the party will bounce back again.
