On Monday, the first day of the inaugural session of the 17th Lok Sabha, Congress president Rahul Gandhi was again caught ‘winking’ by a photographer while leaving Parliament.
By the way, the Congress scion arrived late for the session to take oath as a Member of Parliament from Wayanad constituency, but forgot to sign in the Parliament register.
Several lawmakers, including Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, reminded him to sign the register. Rahul then signed in the register and was applauded by his party members, his mother Sonia Gandhi.
Incidentally, this is not the first time that Rahul has been in the news for winking. A few months ago, he had winked in Parliament after hugging Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the Lok Sabha. This had happened during a serious debate on the Rafale matter.
Rahul has been at the receiving end of strident criticism after the Congress suffered a sound thrashing in the recently-held Lok Sabha polls. He reportedly offered to resign as the Congress chief in the Congress Working Committee meeting, but his resignation was not accepted by the party leaders.
So what does his regular ‘winks’ signify? His sense of humour or something else?
We leave that to our readers to decide.
