Congress chief Rahul Gandhi Wednesday reached out to the people of Wayanad, saying he did not want to make false promises,but was committed to resolving their issues after hearing their "heart and soul".

Taking a jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Gandhi said he was not here to tell his 'Mann Ki Baat' but to understand the difficulties, including the night travel ban, man-animal conflicts and lack of medical facilities, being faced by the people in Sulthan Bathery.

2. Malegaon Blast Accused Sadhvi Pragya is BJP’s Face From Bhopal

Soon after Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur, an accused in the 2008 Malegaon blasts, joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the party announced that she will contest from Bhopal in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

In a list released on Wednesday, 17 April, the BJP declared four candidates for the general elections in Madhya Pradesh, including Sadhvi Pragya, who will take on the Congress’ Digvijaya Singh from the state capital.

3. Tamil Nadu’s Farmers Talk Water Woes, Highways and Statistics

The Quint travelled to Panapakkam village in Tamil Nadu’s northern-most district, Thiruvallur. The district is known for its ground water reserves and fertile agricultural land that rivals the Tanjore rice belt. But the farmers have stories and worries to share –of the depleting ground water reserves; a proposed highway that cuts right through their land; of markers being placed on their land against their will; and of the ever-depleting ground water reserve.

4. TikTok Can Still Be Downloaded Despite Ban by India’s Lawmakers

TikTok, the live-streaming platform from Chinese company Bytedance, has been taken off Google Play Store and Apple App store this week for users in India. This decision was made after the Indian government reached out to the technology giants, asking them to comply with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology’s orders.

5. Extending ‘Sympathy’ to Jet, Mallya Questions Air India Bailout

Amid the crisis in Jet Airways, embattled liquor baron has questioned the government on spending crores to bail out Air India, suggesting that being a PSU should not be an “excuse for discrimination.”

Mallya also said that he felt sorry about the state of affairs at Jet Airways, even though it was a competitor to the now defunct Kingfisher Airlines, which he owned.
