1. Sheena Bora Murder Case: Forensic Expert Being Examined as Witness Under Suspension

A forensic expert being examined as a witness in the Sheena Bora murder case has been under suspension since October, cross-examination by the lawyers of accused Indrani Mukerjea has revealed.

On Tuesday, Lade was questioned by lawyers Sudeep Pasbola and Gunjan Mangla about an alleged mix-up in a criminal case in Kalyan. During cross-examination, when Pasbola asked Lade if he had been suspended, the witness said that in a Kalyan case there was an error pertaining to a wrong label by the receiving assistant. “My analysis was right, but the label carried was wrong. This report was corrected by my office,” Lade informed the court.

2. Shiv Sena to Offer ₹10 Meals at Six Centres Across Maharashtra

Shiv Sena’s poll promise of a meal thali for ₹10 is expected to be fulfilled in six divisional areas across the state.

The Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government, headed by Uddhav Thackeray, has drafted a plan to launch a pilot project with 3,000 thalis, which will include two chapatis, vegetable and dal-rice in the first phase.

The state government has decided to constitute a committee headed by the chief secretary, comprising secretaries from urban development, finance, food and civil supplies departments.

3. SoBo Society 1st to Get 5% Tax Rebate for Processing Waste

A society in Malabar Hill, on Tuesday, became the first to bag a 5% rebate in property tax for segregating and processing waste and using recycled greywater and harvested rainwater.

In August, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) standing committee passed the proposal to offer 5% rebate for housing societies processing their wet waste, 5% for those recycling their dry waste, and another 5% for those harvesting rainwater and recycling water.

4. AC Local to Ply on Trans-Harbour Line From January, 16 Services Daily

In what could be a New Year’s gift to commuters, the Central Railway (CR) is gearing up to induct a new air-conditioned rake for local trains in the first week of January. According to the tentative plan, the train will operate on the trans-harbour corridor and have 16 services daily, of which three each will be available for morning and evening peak hours and the remaining 10 for other hours of the day.

The new rake that arrived in Mumbai on Monday will be tested for electrical fitments, following which it will undergo basic trials.

5. Mumbai Gets Ready to Host India’s 2nd Marina

India’s second marina project is all set to come up in Mumbai.

On Monday, the Centre gave the go-ahead for the construction of a 300-yacht marina on Mumbai Port Trust land at Princess Dock in South Mumbai. At present, the Kochi International Marina in Kerala is the only functional marina in the country.
