1. ‘Accidental Prime Minister’ Faces Flak in Kolkata

Anupam Kher-starrer The Accidental Prime Minister, the movie based on the tenure of former prime minister Manmohan Singh, faced agitation across Kolkata by Congress supporters and the screening of the movie had to be stopped at one of the city theatres.

Chief Minister Magmata Banerjee has also slammed the movie, raising questions about its release schedule.

2. Nalini Chidambaram in CBI's Saradha Chargesheet

The CBI has submitted a chargesheet against Nalini Chidambaram, wife of former Union finance minister P Chidambaram, in the Saradha default scam in Bengal.

The chargesheet was filed in the special CBI court in Barasat near Calcutta on Friday, 11 January.

According to the document, Nalini Chidambaram, a Supreme Court lawyer, had allegedly conspired with the chairman of the Saradha Group, Sudipta Sen, in misappropriating depositors’ funds.

4. Youth Rescued From Howrah Bridge Reunited With Family From Guwahti

Cops have traced the family of 31-year-old Hemant Gogoi, the youth who had scaled the 'anti-suicide wall' of the Howrah bridge last week.

Gogoi's mother and few relatives on Friday met him at the Calcutta Pavlov Hospital. A medical board will check on him on Saturday and corroborate certain information with the family before deciding if he can be sent back to his Guwahati home.

The Bengal government on Thursday, 10 January, transferred Nikhil Nirmal, the district magistrate of Alipurduar where he was accused of having beaten up a youth inside a police station, as the managing director of the West Bengal Tribal Development Cooperative Corporation Ltd.
