1. Teen Kills 10-Year-Old Boy for Refusing Sex, Held
A 10-year-old boy was allegedly killed by a teenager for refusing him sex at Sakinaka in suburban Andheri, police said on Sunday, 23 December. The accused stuffed the body in a suitcase and dumped it in a nullah to destroy evidence, they said, adding that the body has been recovered.
The complainant told police that he had received a call from an unidentified person claiming that he had kidnapped his son and demanded Rs 5 lakh in ransom for his release, he said.
The complainant said he last saw his son Friday evening with his teenager friend. Police then detained the juvenile for questioning.
Subsequently, the accused admitted killing the 10-year-old for refusing to have sex with him, he said.

2. One-Month-Old Baby Smothered to Death
A month-old baby boy was allegedly smothered to death and dumped under a cot in a house in Bengaluru’s Viveknagar.
The baby was one of twins born to Karthik, and was suffering from fever. According to police, on Friday, 21 December, Karthik went out after putting the baby on the bed in the hall to get medicine. A few minutes later, the mother took one baby inside a room to feed her.
When Karthik returned, the second baby was missing. He began searching for the baby in the neighbourhood. When he failed to find the baby, he approached the Ashoka Nagar police and lodged a complaint.
While searching Karthik's house, police found the baby, wrapped in a towel, beneath the bed.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the baby had been smothered to death. The baby was shifted to a hospital for post-mortem.

3. Gujarat Businessman Arrested for Rs 14 Crore GST Fraud
Gujarat’s Vadodara GST office on Friday, 21 December, arrested a 52-year-old businessman from Kapadvanj town of Kheda district for fraudulently claiming Rs 14 crore as input tax credit (ITC) by preparing bogus supply and purchase bills.
Accused Paresh Patel is the chairman of HM Industries which is engaged in extracting castor oil, solvents and making steel pipes as well. Patel was first summoned to the GST and central excise commissionerate in the city and questioned about discrepancies found in his transactions.
After questioning, he was formally arrested. "It came to light that Patel was preparing bogus bills to show supply and purchase that he never did," officials told on Sunday, 23 December.
Patel showed on paper that he supplied a stock of steel to some company. He then again showed on paper that he had received steel stock from another firm. But no such supply or purchase was ever done.

4. Man Posed as Godman, News Channel Owner to Dupe People; Arrested
The Delhi Police Special Cell has arrested a 32-year-old man who posed as the owner of a news channel, a businessman and a godman to dupe people.
The accused, Abhishek Vashishta from Kurukshetra, was arrested by a Special Cell team based on a tip-off on his whereabouts. Police said he has completed a five-year integrated course in journalism and mass communication from Kurukshetra University.
Police said he is the main accused in two criminal cases registered in Punjab and Delhi.
At the time of his arrest, he was posing as a businessman on several matrimonial sites. “He posed as a single man with luxury vehicles and an annual income of Rs 25 lakh. Recently, he duped a Delhi-based girl. After marrying her, he fled with her jewellery and cash. A case was registered at Barakhamba Road police station,” said DCP (Special Cell) Pramod Singh Kushwah.

5. Inter-State Gang of Drug Peddlers Busted
Acting on a tip-off, the Counter-Intelligence Wing busted an inter-state drug smuggling racket on Sunday and recovered 250 kg poppy husk being transported in a truck in Satnampura locality of Phagwara, Punjab.
In a press release, AIG, Counter Intelligence, HPS Khakh said on Sunday, 23 December, they received a tip-off that a large drug consignment was being supplied by Madhya Pradesh-based smugglers in a Mahindra Jumbo bearing registration number (PB11-CJ-2083).
Police have seized 250 kg poppy husk, packed in 12 bags, from the truck. A case has been registered against Karam Singh in Satnampura police station under Sections 15, 61, and 85 of Narcotics, Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, AIG added.

6. Set on Fire by Stalker, 18-Year-Old Succumbs at Delhi Hospital
An 18-year-old woman, who was undergoing treatment at Safdarjung Hospital, Delhi after allegedly being set on fire by her stalker for rejecting his romantic advances, succumbed to injuries on Sunday, 23 December, officials said.
The 31-year-accused in the case is a taxi driver. He attacked the woman, when she was returning from college on 16 December in Rishikesh, officials said.
The woman was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in Rishikesh on 17 December with 70 to 80 percent burns. She was flown to Delhi in an air ambulance on 19 December and admitted to the burn ward at Safdarjung Hospital, officials said.
The man had been stalking her after she had rebuffed his advances, police said. "The accused poured petrol on the woman and set her ablaze. After hearing her cries for help, locals rushed to the spot and took her to the hospital," police said.
7. Newly-Married Woman Found Dead, Honour Killing Suspected
In a suspected case of honour killing, a 22-year-old woman, who married a man from a different caste, was found dead under suspicious circumstances in Telangana's Mancherial district, police said on Sunday, 23 December.
A Laxman, the husband of the woman, has complained to police that his wife Anuradha was forcibly taken away by her parents on 22 December.
"Our teams were searching for her and in the due course we found some human bones at a nearby village. We have sent them for forensic examination. We we will not be able to comment anything as of now," Mancherial DCP Venugopal Rao told PTI.
A police official, who was part of the investigation, said they have taken Anuradha's parents and a few of her relatives into custody for questioning.
They confessed that Anuradha was dead, the official said, adding that it is not yet clear whether they killed her or she died due to some other problem.
8. Man Beats Wife to Death After Tiff over His Drinking
A 50-year-old man in Lucknow beat his 45-year-old wife to death in an inebriated state, reportedly following an argument related to his drinking problems in the early hours of Sunday, 23 December.
The accused, identified as Ram Avatar Kushwaha, was arrested, while his wife Rekha Kushwaha’s body was sent for postmortem.
“…On 22 December after dinner the neighbours heard of an argument between them. Later in the night Ram Avatar attacked his wife with a heavy wood stick in an inebriated state. The woman died and the husband fled from the spot,” said Ram Surat Sonkar, SHO at the Sarojini Nagar police station.

9. Woman Stoned to Death by Husband in Rajasthan
A 32-year-old woman was allegedly stoned to death by her husband in the Rajsamand district of Rajasthan, police said Sunday, 23 December.
Police have detained Narsingh Rawat for allegedly killing his wife, Rekha Devi, following a heated argument, police said, adding that the couple has four children.
"The accused (Rawat) following a dispute with his wife, stoned her to death," SHO Bheem Police Station Labhu Ram said.
We have detained Rawat after a complaint was lodged against him by the family members of the deceased, the officer said.
Rekha Devi's body was handed over to her family after a post mortem examination. Further investigation is underway, the officer added.
