QCrime: Speeding Car Kills Auto Driver; Teen Manhandles Cops

1. Search For Elderly Woman’s Killer Down to 84 Auto Drivers

Days after a 72-year-old woman, who retired from the Textiles Ministry, was found murdered in the bushes in southeast Delhi’s Taimoor Nagar, police have isolated a pool of 84 autorickshaw drivers who were in the area at the time.Police investigation in the case has revealed that the victim, Roop Lata, took an auto from Badarpur after getting off a bus on route 717, to go home.

During investigation, police found CCTV footage from a camera installed near a bus stand in Mahipalpur, which shows the woman passing by the bus stand at 7.22 pm on 10 November.

“Police, with the help of transport authority, found that all auto-rickshaws have been fitted with Global Positioning Systems (GPS). Using geo-coordinates, they found that 84 auto-rickshaws were plying at the time of incident near the spot. Police also came to know she was carrying some cash and wearing gold jewellery,” a senior police officer said.

2. Over-Speeding Car Kills Auto Rickshaw Driver in North Delhi

A 55-year-old auto rickshaw driver died and a woman was injured after they were hit allegedly by an over-speeding car near Sabzi Mandi in North Delhi on Thursday, police said.

The incident took pace at around 7 am, they said.

An over speeding car first hit a 58-year-old woman who was waiting to cross the road near Baraf Khana at Subzi Mandi and then hit an auto rickshaw driver and eventually slided over the footpath after hitting a tree, a senior police officer said.

Fearing the consequences, the driver of the car fled from the spot, he said.

The auto rickshaw driver and the injured woman were rushed to a nearby hospital where the driver was declared brought dead by the hospital authorities.

3. Delhi: Youth Held For Revenge Killing

Almost two weeks after an elderly man was murdered outside his house in central Delhi's Prasad Nagar, cops have arrested his killer, who was evading arrest. After being nabbed, he told the cops that he slit the elderly's throat because he used to interfere in the fights he had with his brother. And whenever they asked for his opinion, he used to side with his brother and never with him.

The victim was identified as Ranjan Biswas and he was a tea seller. On the day of the incident, he was attacked on his way back home.

4. Mumbai: Helmetless Teen Biker, His Dad Manhandle Cops, Arrested

A 19-year-old biker without helmet, his friend riding pillion, and his father allegedly manhandled a traffic constable and then created ruckus at Powai police station after his bike was stopped at a nakabandi to check helmetless and drunk driving. The trio has since been arrested after being booked for using force to deter public servant from discharging duty.

The incident took place near L&T Gate at Powai around 9.30 pm on Tuesday when college student Nikhil Sonawane (19) and Vishal VB (35) got furious on being stopped by constable MM Sunil.

5. Case Registered Over Porn Content in Books Distributed at Comic Con

A private firm allegedly distributed comic books containing explicit and adult content to students in the age group of six to 18 years at an annual event held in the city recently, following which Byappanahalli police have registered a case against the event organiser.

According to parents, the comic books were distributed during the 7th edition of Comic Con, the annual comic festival organized by the Comic Con India (CCI) in Bengaluru on 17 and 18 November at KTPO Convention Centre, Whitefield.

The children who got the tickets for the event on both the days were presented with a goodie bag which contained a comic book and a poster, along with a kit which contained a badge, a T-shirt and a notebook.

6. Excise Inspector Threatened With Rape

A 40-year-old woman inspector of Central Exercise and Customs, who was in Bengaluru for a vacation, was threatened with rape by three men at a pan shop near Happy Land Super Market in Ibbalur.

According to the complaint filed by Aruna (name changed), a man came to the pan shop and took a cigarette from the owner. “He did not pay for it and got into an argument with the owner. He left the spot and returned in a couple of minutes with two other men.

They started fighting with the pan shop owner. I wanted to stop the situation from turning ugly and asked the trio to pay for the cigarette. They manhandled me, touched me inappropriately and abused me. I understood only ‘rape’ as I don’t know Kannada. But I recorded their act on my mobile and warned them that I was going to complain to the cops,” said Aruna, who had gone to the shop after a party.

7. Kolkata Woman Molested, Beaten Up by Auto-Driver

A 28-year-old woman travelling in an auto was allegedly molested and beaten up before an attempt on her life was made when she resisted the driver from raping her at a secluded spot in New Town on Tuesday night.

It was thanks to three good Samaritans, who came to the woman’s rescue on hearing her muffled cries for help, that she was saved.

The woman hails from Alwar in Rajasthan, and works as a caregiver at several Salt Lake homes, staying in a rented house at Kestopur.

8. Swiss Tourist Robbed of Rs 2.50 Lakh in Chennai

Two motorcycle-borne men snatched a bag, containing foreign currencies equal to around Rs 2.50 lakh, from a woman tourist here on Thursday, 22 November.

M Ball Carole, 28, of Switzerland reached in Chennai on a tourist visa on 20 November and was staying in a hotel at Teynampet.

Carole took an autorickshaw when she went for shopping at Pondy Bazaar in T Nagar. When the vehicle slowed down near Maya Plaza on the Theagaraya Road, two men on a motorcycle snatched her bag and fled the scene.

9. Promotional SMS During Robbery in Ghaziabad, Lands Gang of Five in Cop’s Net

A promotional SMS on the mobile phone of the mastermind of a robbers’ gang landed five men in police net late on Tuesday, 20 November, night.

According to police, the gang on 3 November had allegedly robbed a perfume factory in Bhojpur and had fled with cash and equipment used for manufacturing perfume.

Police identified the accused as Sanjeev Singh, who is the prime accused, Prashant Kumar, Ankit Kumar, Lokendra Chand and Vikas Pal, who formed a gang and allegedly performed the robbery at the unit.

Police said they cracked the case with the help electronic surveillance when a pending promotional SMS which was delivered to the mobile phone of Sanjeev on the night of the incident helped them track the gang.
