1. For Rape-Murder of Kathua Child, 3 Get Life in Jail: ‘Acted as If Jungle Law Prevails’

Seventeen months after the kidnapping, gang-rape and murder of a minor girl in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir stunned the nation, the Pathankot district and sessions court, where the trial was transferred on the directions of the Supreme Court, held six men guilty in the case Monday.

It sentenced three men, accused of rape and murder among other charges, to life imprisonment, and three policemen to five years for destruction of evidence, observing that “the perpetrators of this crime have acted in such a manner as if there is a ‘law of the jungle’ prevalent in society.”

2. Cops Release Sketches of Suspects Who Fired Shots at News Crew

The Delhi Police has released sketches of two suspects who fired on two journalists and their driver on the Barapullah flyover in the wee hours of Sunday. Three shots were fired – one was lodged in the door on the driver’s side, second missed its mark, and the third damaged the car’s front window glass.

None of the channel’s crew was hurt in the firing which took place on the Barapullah flyover around 1:30 am on Sunday. The three were on their way to report on a murder. Police said at least 16 teams comprising 80 investigators have so far scanned more than 60 CCTV cameras and questioned around 50 suspects.

3. Prison Fight Spills on to the Streets

The 21-year-old brother of a criminal was left battling for his life after being shot multiple times by members of a rival gang in east Delhi’s Kalyanpuri on Sunday night, apparently the result of the fight between the two criminals in the Mandoli Jail complex a few days ago.

Karan Singh, who works with an e-commerce company as a delivery executive, told the cops that he lived in Kalyanpuri with his family. His brother, Rahul Singh, is currently serving time in jail after conviction in an attempt to murder case and has also been declared a bad character by the Kalyanpuri police station after involvement in various other crimes in the area.

4. Half-Burnt Body of Woman Found, Rape Suspected

The half-burnt body of a woman was found in Kuidbusu village in Jharkhand’s West Singhbhum district, the police said on Monday.

The police suspect that the woman was raped before being murdered.

“We are waiting for the postmortem report after which the rape could be ascertained conclusively. As of now, a case of murder has been lodged and an investigation has been launched to identify the victim in the age-group of 30 to 35 years. The body started decomposing and her eyes appeared to have been gouged out. The miscreants tried to burn the body to destroy evidence,” Amar Pandey, sub-divisional police officer, said.

5. 24-Year-Old Bludgeoned to Death in Delhi’s Jahangirpuri

A 24-year-old man was stabbed and then bludgeoned to death, allegedly by a group of five men, in North West Delhi’s Jahangirpuri late Sunday night. Initial investigation has revealed that the victim, along with his associates, allegedly beat up the accused and his associates, members of a rival gang, following which they killed him to “exact revenge.”

According to police, the victim has been identified as Gaurav Kumar.

“On Sunday evening, Kumar, along with one Satish, stabbed one Ravi and fled from the spot. Ravi was taken to hospital. In the meantime, his gang members gathered outside the hospital and some of them started looking for Kumar and Satish,” a senior police officer said.

6. Four Years After Murder, Suspect Arrested from UP

Four years after a 75-year-old man was killed and robbed in east Delhi’s Mansarovar Park, an absconding suspect has been arrested, police said on Monday.

Pardeep, 34, was arrested from Barabanki district of Uttar Pradesh on Friday after the Delhi Police’s crime branch received a tip-off that he had been hiding there ever since the murder. He had a reward of ₹50,000 on his head.

Pardeep and his friend, Manoj, had allegedly strangled the elderly man, Ratan Singh, at his home on the night of 24 May before fleeing with his valuables.

7. FIR Against Management as Boiler Blast Kills 2 Chinese Men

A day after three people, including two Chinese nationals, died following a boiler explosion at a biotechnology company in Mewat, an FIR has been registered against the manager, general manager and director.

“The case has been registered under IPC sections 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and 34 (common intention) based on a complaint submitted by the father of one of the victims, Vicky,” said ASI Chanderpal, the investigating officer.

8. Businessman Loses Rs 45,000 at Cash Deposit Machine

After targeting ATMs, fraudsters are now eyeing cash deposit machines installed by banks. A businessman from south Delhi recently lost around Rs 45,000 when he went in to deposit cash through a machine at a bank branch in south Delhi’s Jangpura.

The victim, a resident of Pul Prahladpur, told cops that in May, he had gone to the bank to deposit the cash in his wife’s account. “When I deposited the cash in the machine, I surprisingly did not get any message on my phone confirming the transaction. I received a slip from the machine but it did not mention the amount deposited,” he said.

9. Salon Owners Hire Killers to Bump off Competitor

Two salon owners hired three killers to target a woman after she set up a salon nearby and attracted more customers. All five of them have been arrested.

They threatened her to give up her business but when she refused, they hired three criminals to shoot at her while she was driving. At Ashok Vihar traffic signal, they fired multiple rounds at her car. The bullets hit her arm and shoulder. The shooters were later caught from Shalimar Bagh.

The woman was admitted to private hospital on 4 June with bullet injuries. Her car was found parked near Ashok Vihar.
