1. Mob Kills Tribal over Suspicion of Cow Slaughter

One person was beaten to death and three others were injured by a mob which suspected them of slaughtering a cow and cutting its flesh in Jharkhand’s Gumla district.

The deceased has been identified as Prakash Lakra.

According to the police, the incident happened late Wednesday night, 10 April, when four persons of the tribal community in Jhumro village were cutting the flesh of a dead ox. A few persons of Jairagi village spotted them, resulting in a “scuffle”.

Deputy Inspector General (Chota Nagpur Range) Homkar Amol Venukant said the incident occurred around 20 km from Dumri police station, bordering Chhattisgarh.

2. PNB Ex-Manager Held for Nod to ₹3 Crore Loan for Fake Work

The Economic Offences Wing of Delhi Police arrested a former chief manager of the Punjab National Bank (PNB) after it was found that he had sanctioned loans of Rs 3 crore for bogus work orders and fake invoices. Police sources said that the man, S K Upadhyay, was earlier chargesheeted by the CBI in other fraud cases.

Additional CP (EOW) Suvashis Chowdhary said that the arrests were made on the basis of a complaint by PNB’s Najafgarh branch where Upadhyay was posted then. During an inquiry into the loans it was found that Upadhyay had knowingly passed the loans, which were then used for personal use of the borrowers.

3. Man Attacks Cops, Breaks PCR Van Window with Axe

A man allegedly attacked four police officers and broke the window pane of a police vehicle with an axe when the police had gone to his house to settle a dispute in his family in Farrukhnagar on Wednesday, 10 April.

Police said two policemen sustained minor injuries while the uniform of another policeman was torn in the alleged altercation following which the suspect managed to flee.

According to police, the incident took place Wednesday night when a woman, a resident of Sultanpur village, called the women’s helpline (1091) and said her father was beating up her mother.

4. Two Prostitution Rackets Busted, Cops ‘Rescue’ Minor, 1 Indian, 3 Thai Women

The Social Security Cell of the Pune City Police Crime Branch busted prostitution rackets at two different spots in Pune and rescued four women, including three from Thailand and one from Maharashtra, as well as a minor, during the operation on Wednesday, 10 April.

In the first case, acting on a tip-off, a police team raided a spa in eastern Pune, where three women from Thailand were rescued.

5. BSF Men Fire in Air to Control Ruckus at Booth

Border Security Force (BSF) personnel resorted to firing in the air at a polling booth in Rasoolpur Gujran village of Kairana constituency on Thursday, 11 April, as some people, without voter identity cards, allegedly tried to forcibly enter the premises to cast their votes, the police said.

An FIR was registered against unknown persons for creating ruckus and disrupting the voting process.

Akhilesh Singh, District Magistrate of Shamli district said that on the complaint of BSF personnel, an FIR has been registered under IPC Section 147 (punishment for rioting) and various sections of Representation of People Act.

6. Grocer Held for Sexually Harassing Children in Narela

A man has been arrested for allegedly harassing and sexually intimidating several children at a colony in Narela. The accused, a shopkeeper, would inappropriately touch children who would come to buy grocery.

Police have received complaints from the parents of four children so far. The man used to force the children to fix meetings with their friends so that he could call them over to his shop after school hours.

The matter came to the fore on Wednesday, 10 April, when a 12-year-old girl told her parents that the man, Naveen, had been harassing her for the past few weeks. He was forcing her to introduce him to her friends at school. When she refused, he allegedly touched her inappropriately.

7. Girl Immolates Herself After Neighbour Tries to Molest Her, Say Police

A 15-year-old girl set herself on fire after a 20-year-old neighbour allegedly tried to molest her in Banda district on Wednesday, 10 April, police said. The accused was arrested after the incident.

“As per the complaint lodged by the deceased’s brother-in-law, she had gone to a grocery store around 6 pm and was returning home when the accused allegedly caught hold of her and took her to a nearby secluded place and tried to molest her. However, the accused failed in his attempt and fled as the girl kept screaming for help. Hearing her cries, local residents, including her sister, gathered at the spot,” said Tara Singh Patel, station house officer of the Kotwali Dehat police station.

8. Man Shot at in Farrukhnagar over Personal Enmity: Police

Three men were booked for allegedly firing at a man when he was returning from work in Farrukhnagar on Wednesday night, 10 April. The man escaped unhurt in the incident, police said, adding that a dispute with an acquaintance over sharing a cab might have been the reason for the attack.

According to the police, the incident took place around 12.10am when the victim, Nitesh Kumar, was going home from his office at a taxi stand, when three men came on a motorcycle and shot at him.

The accused men have been identified as Jinnat, Vipin and Gourav Shokeen, all of whom are known to the victim, police said.

9. Four Arrested for Online Fraud

Four men were arrested on Tuesday for allegedly running a cyber fraud racket, the police said on Wednesday, 10 April.

The police said that the men used to trick credit and debit cardholders into sharing their card details and password after offering them their services to redeem cash against reward points earned by them on their cards.

The fraudulently obtained details were further used for shopping and illegal money transactions, the police said.

Sujit Singh, 22, a former employee of an online food order and delivery company, Rishabh Saxena, 19, a BCA degree holder, Pankaj, 29, who earlier worked as a contractual employee in the credit card section of a bank, and Rakesh Kumar, 35, an accountant working at a petrol pump were arrested.
