1. Haryana Woman Raped on Pretext of Finding Her Job

A Haryana woman was raped at a hotel in Phase 1 on Wednesday, 22 May. The accused committed the crime on the pretext of helping the woman in finding work, the police said.

The victim stated in her complaint that she came to Mohali last month where she met Swaran Singh, a resident of Muktsar Sahib who stays in Sector 40, Chandigarh, through one of her relatives.

“I wanted a job and the accused promised me to help. He asked me to come to Mohali on 21 May. I met Swaran Singh at PTL chowk where the accused told me that he would arrange my meeting with a woman who would help me in finding a job. We waited at the PTL chowk for around one hour, following which the accused told me that the woman whom we wanted to meet called him to a hotel in Phase 1,” the victim stated in her complaint.

2. Mumbai: UP Youth Arrested for Murder of 73-Yr-Old Man

A 28-year-old man from Uttar Pradesh has been arrested for the murder of his colleague at a shipping company in Mumbai.

The police said that on 13 May, Rahul Yadav allegedly murdered and robbed 73-year-old Raghuram Aithal, a resident of Kamothe in Navi Mumbai, hoping to clear his debt and get his father operated upon. While Aithal was an accountant at the company, Yadav used to work as a driver.

“On 13 May, Yadav was asked to drop Aithal in Borivali, where he was supposed to hand over Rs 15 lakh to a client. While looking for the address of the client, Aithal stepped out of the car in Borivali. When he returned, Yadav sat on the back seat and as soon as Aithal sat on the passenger seat, strangulated him,” said Sub-Inspector Yogesh Bhosale of MRA Marg police station.

3. Gang That Stole Data of 50,000 Bank Account Holders, Arrested

The Uttar Pradesh special task force (STF) on Tuesday arrested a gang of four men that purchased personal data of bank account holders and later duped them on the pretext of providing them additional security features for credit cards. Police’s initial estimate says at least Rs1 crore was siphoned off from accounts.

The STF officers said the gang procured data of about 50,000 account holders of seven different banks.

The arrested men were identified as Sanjeet Kumar, Baldev Singh, Tapeshwar Chaudhary and Gajendra. The four men were arrested from the jurisdiction of Kavi Nagar police station in Ghaziabad.

4. Gangs Stealing Car Tyres Strike Again in Gurugram

Gangs stealing car tyres have resurfaced in the city with at least 35 fresh cases being reported from different areas of the city this month, said the police. According to them, they were able to curb the rising incidents of tyre thefts in March this year with the arrest of five people who were allegedly stealing tyres, rims and other spare parts of cars parked at isolated stretches. However, after a lull that lasted for over a month, such cases have once again started being reported, they said.

Most of the complaints have come from areas such as Sushant Lok 1; DLF Phase 2; Sector 49; Sector 15, Part 2; Golf Course Road and Sohna Road. The police said such gangs usually targeted new tyres and cars of particular brands, such as Creta, Eco Sports, and Baleno that have a booming market.

5. Mumbai Doctor Kills Herself, 3 Seniors Booked

Three senior doctors of BYL Nair Hospital have been booked for abetment of suicide on Thursday after a 26-year-old post-graduate student at the hospital committed suicide by hanging herself at the college hostel on Wednesday.

The deceased Payal Tadvi was harassed by the three doctors as she belonged to a lower caste, her family members alleged. On the basis of a complaint lodged by Tadvi’s parents, the Agripada police have registered a case against Dr Hema Ahuja, Dr Bhakti Mehar and Dr Ankita Khandilwal under section 306 (abetment for suicide) of the Indian penal code (IPC), sections of the SC/ST Atrocities Act, Anti-Ragging Act and Information Technology Act, 2000.

6. 22-Year-Old Man Kills His Father in a Fit of Rage

A 22-year-old man killed his father in a fit of rage here, the police said. The accused after killing his father, chopped off latter's body and disposed it. The incident took place in Farsh Bazaar area of the national capital.

The police have nabbed the accused, who on interrogation revealed that he took the extreme step as his father used to argue with him and scold him quite often.

7. Rajasthan Police Constable Held for Demanding Bribe

A Rajasthan police head constable was on Thursday arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) for allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs 5,000, officials said.

Head Constable Bala Ram, posted with Merta Road police station in Nagaur district, had demanded the bribe from one Ramkishore to submit a favourable final report in a case lodged against him and his friends, an ACB official said.

"He was arrested from outside the vote counting centre in Nagaur where he was on duty. He has been arrested under the Prevention of Corruption Act," the official said.

8. Zakir Musa, Kashmir's Most Wanted Terrorist, Killed in Encounter

Zakir Musa, one of the most wanted terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir, has been killed in an encounter in Dadsara Tral area. Musa, a former Hizbul Mujahideen commander, had formed an al Qaeda-linked group Ansar Ghazwat-ul Hind and was known for using propaganda to call for an Islamic caliphate in Kashmir and throughout India.

"Zakir Musa was an Ansar Ghazwat-ul Hind chief and a A++ terrorist. He was also an al Qaeda affiliate," a senior police officer told NDTV.

Musa joined terrorism in 2013 and came to lime light after security forces killed terrorist Burhan Wani in 2016. "After Burhan, he became a poster boy of sorts in social media," an officer said.

9. Two Rajasthan Men Allegedly Robbed, Their Private Parts Burnt by Kidnappers

Two men were admitted to hospital in Rajasthan's Sikar after six people allegedly kidnapped them, dragged them into their car and burnt their private parts before robbing them of the cash they carried.

Police have launched a manhunt for the six men who also circulated a video of the incident in Dhod area of Sikar district, officials said on Wednesday.

The police registered an complaint on Tuesday under the Indian Penal Code against the six men, the officials said, adding the victims have been admitted to a hospital for treatment.
