QCrime: Fake Call Centre Busted in UP; 2 Held For Cricket Betting

1. Two Held in Multi-Crore Cricket Betting Racket in Mumbai

The Anti Narcotics Cell (ANC) of the Mumbai Police on Saturday, 22 June, arrested two people from Grant Road for accepting bets on the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup.

The two accused, Vishwas Takalkar (51) from Mumbai and Ajay Kantraj (24) from Bengaluru, were picked up from Hotel Balwas at Grant Road.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Anti Narcotics Cell), Shivdeep Lande said: “We received preliminary information about the betting from our sources. We caught the accused red-handed while they were betting on the New Zealand vs West Indies match.”

2. Fake Call Centre Busted in Noida, 9 Arrested

Nine persons were arrested by the Phase 3 police on Saturday after a fake call centre operating in Noida Sector 63, allegedly duping people on the pretext of providing loans approvals, was busted.

The owner of the establishment is on the run.

According to police officers, they had received a complaint that a finance firm, Navjeevan Info Solution Private Limited, being operated from A-block of Sector 63, was allegedly duping people.

“It was a finance firm which also had a call centre. They would dupe customers by pretending to get loans approved and then charging them with various fees but no loans were being processed,” Gautam Budh Nagar senior superintendent of police Vaibhav Krishna said.

3. Bengal Man Pushed off Train for Not Saying ‘Jai Shri Ram’

A 26-year-old madrasa teacher on Monday claimed that he was beaten up and pushed off a moving train by a group for not chanting 'Jai Shri Ram' on Thursday afternoon while he was travelling from Canning in South 24 Parganas district to Hooghly in West Bengal.

Hafeez Mohd Sahrukh Haldar, who the police said escaped with minor injuries, said, “I was travelling to Hooghly when a group of people were chanting ‘Jai Shri Ram’ inside the compartment. They asked me to chant the same. When I refused, they started to beat me... nobody came to my rescue.”

“The incident took place while the train was between Dhakuria and Park Circus stations. They pushed me off the train at Park Circus station. Some locals helped me,” he added.

4. Delhi Triple Murder: Police Tackle Switched Off Phones, India-Afghanistan Match as Alibi

Two phones that were switched off around 8:30 pm on Saturday and the India-Afghanistan World Cup match – these are among the threads police are exploring as they question a man and a woman detained in connection with the murders of a senior couple and their nursing attendant in New Delhi’s Vasant Vihar.

According to police, the man, who is believed to have been in a relationship with the nursing attendant Khushboo Nautiyal, 24, and a woman he was living with have emerged as suspects in the triple murder.

According to police, footage from near the home of Vishnu Mathur, 80, and his wife Shashi Mathur, 75, shows two people of the same build as the detained suspects arriving at their home around 11 pm on Saturday and leaving around 2 am on a motorcycle.

5. Molestation Video Goes Viral: Mumbai Police Hunt Person Who Shot It

The Mumbai Police are on the lookout for a person who shot the video of a man seen molesting a girl that went viral on social media. The man in the video was arrested soon after the incident. “The local police has been asked to find out who shot the video,” an IPS officer told The Indian Express.

After the video started circulating on social media, the Mumbai Police put out a tweet, requesting people to stop sharing the video. The police also asked the cyber police to pull the video down.

The incident took place on 8 June when the 10-year-old girl had been sent by her mother to fetch snacks. In her statement to the police, the mother said that as they had relatives over at their place, she had sent her daughter to a nearby shop

6. TikTok Enthusiast Arrested for Shootout with Rival Gang

The Delhi Police on Monday said they have arrested a 23-year-old TikTok user in connection with a shooting incident in which two members of his rival gang had sustained bullet injuries in southwest Delhi’s Vikas Nagar near Ranhola on 1 June.

Police said the shootout was the fallout of a rivalry between two criminal gangs over establishing extortion money from people running betting rackets in Ranhola. The members of the two groups had been threatening each other and looking for opportunities to kill their rivals, they said.

Police said the suspect, Aakash alias Monu is a resident of west Delhi’s Vikaspuri. They also said that Monu is the same person who featured in a widely shared video that showed Aakash and his friend Shahzad brandishing a pistol in March this year.

7. Armed Men Loot Rs 17 Lakh from Cash Pick-Up Van in Gurugram

Four men, two of whom were armed, allegedly robbed Rs 17 lakh from the driver of a private cash management services company on Monday afternoon.

The incident took place on the road across the parking near Sector 29 market, which is around 1.5 kilometres from the Sector 29 police station. The private company offers services, including transporting cash from clients to the banks.

Police said the driver and the cashier had left from the company’s office at Jhandewalan in Delhi around 10 am in the cash pick-up van, an Eeco. After collecting cash from Dwarka, Najafgarh, Nawada in Delhi and Sector 14 in Gurugram, the van had stopped near Sector 29 market to collect cash from another client when the incident took place.

8. Maharashtra CM’s House on BMC Defaulter List

The Maharashtra Chief Minister’s official residence, as well as bungalows of several senior ministers, owe the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation nearly ₹8 crore in water bills, and the corporation has included these properties in its defaulters’ list.

The information was revealed in response to a Right to Information (RTI) query. Meanwhile, the government has clarified that dues were paid till November and the rest will be paid immediately.

The BMC has thousands of crores pending in water tax from defaulters across the city, many of whom are government organisations. It has now come to light that the Public Works Department, which maintains government bungalows of all State Ministers located in and around Malabar Hill, owes the BMC around ₹8 crore.

9. Police Act on Actor Kushboo’s Twitter Complaint

A day after actor-turned-politician Kushboo complained on her Twitter handle about a container lorry parked in the corner of her street, the Chennai City traffic police swung into action and impounded the vehicle.

On 22 June, Kushboo tweeted along with pictures: “... this container has been parked at the corner of our street for the last 10 days, not even a single citizen around that has even bothered to check or complain. It raises suspicion as it doesn’t even have a number plate. Urge @chennaipolice to kindly look into it immediately.”

A day after, there was a response from the Chennai Traffic Police’s Twitter handle @CCTPolice_Alert asking her for the location.
