QCrime: DSP Sodomised Trainee Sub-Inspector in Ahmedabad & More

1. Deputy SP Booked for Sodomy, Abetting Suicide of Trainee Sub-Inspector

A day after the Director General of Police Shivanand Jha transferred the probe into the alleged suicide of a trainee sub-inspector to the Detection of Crime Branch, the DCB on Thursday booked a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) for allegedly sodomising the sub-inspector, who allegedly shot himself due to the harassment.

The FIR has come in the wake of the refusal of the sub-inspector’s family to cremate his body.

2. Man Arrested for Raping Woman in Udhampur

A man was arrested Thursday for allegedly raping a woman in Jammu and Kashmir's Udhampur district, police said.

A police official said that a written complaint was received at Police Station Pancheri from a woman, a resident of Kothi laid Lower Meer, he said.

The accused allegedly dragged her to a nearby forest and rape her while she was returning home from Kaithgali towards Kothilaid, he said.  After the incident, he threatened her of dire consequences if she reported the matter to police or anyone else.

3. Youth Gives Kidnappers the Slip, Four Held

A youngster from Aushapur village in Ghatkesar was allegedly abducted by a group of men on Tuesday night. However, the victim Naresh, a private employee, managed to escape from the clutches of the kidnappers and approached Ghatkesar police on Wednesday.

Naresh reportedly informed police that four persons forcefully took him to an isolated place and assaulted him. Following the complaint lodged by the victim, the police registered a case under charges of kidnap and SC and ST Act and the accused were arrested on Thursday.

4. Delhi: Three Women ‘Molested’ in Hauz Khas

While waiting for a cab at south Delhi’s Aurobindo Marg at 2 am on 1 January, three women were allegedly molested by a group of men, and their male friend was allegedly thrashed. An FIR in the matter has been registered at Hauz Khas police station under IPC sections 354 (outraging modesty of a woman), 506 (criminal intimidation), 379 (theft), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 34 (common intention).

The FIR has been filed by one woman’s husband, who claimed he was beaten up by three-four people.

5. Mumbai: Man Held for Duping Over 250 People

A 50-year-old travel agent has been arrested for allegedly duping over 250 people of Rs 22.5 lakh. Kamal Satpal Khanna, a travel agent who ran Chaitanya Travel agency in New Delhi, was arrested on Monday.

The police said Khanna took around Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000 each from the devotees at the ISKCON temple on the pretext of booking their flight tickets to Bhubaneswar. The victims realised that they have been handed over fake tickets when they reached the airport.

6. Thane: 25 People Duped of Rs 25 Lakh, Man Booked

Posing as a government employee, a 40-year-old man was booked for allegedly cheating 25 people of Rs 25 lakh by promising them government jobs.

The man, Naresh Surve, a resident of Vartak Nagar in Thane, is on the run. “Surve told his neighbours that he was working at Mantralaya and had recently been transferred to the Thane collector’s office. He told them that he knew senior officers and could help them if they needed,” said a police officer.

7. Mother, Daughter ‘Strangulated’ in Shamli

A 50-year-old woman and her daughter were strangulated by unidentified assailants on Thursday at Hari Nagar Bidauli village in Shamli district, police said.

The deceased have been identified as Kamla Devi, who was was running a flour unit, and her daughter Sonu (23). Kamla’s husband Hari Mohan (54) had died four years ago and her son had gone two years ago. Sonu was also a cadet at the NCC.

8. Missing Idols of Tirupur Temple Found Abandoned in Coimbatore

Two temple idols that had gone missing from a temple in Tirupur were found abandoned on Salem - Kochi highway near Karumathampatti in Coimbatore on Wednesday.

The Karumathampatti police handed over the bronze idols to the Tirupur police who have been on a search for the idols.
