1. Assaulted, Wife ‘Abducted, Raped’, Dalit Says Went to up Police, Was Tortured

A 41-year-old Dalit man has accused police of torturing him when he went to file a complaint about the kidnapping of his 38-year-old wife by three unidentified youths from the Aligarh-Kanpur highway in Mainpuri area, on Friday night, 5 July.

After the woman alleged gangrape, police Saturday registered a case against three unidentified youths.

The Station Officer and two constables of Bichhwan Police Station in Mainpuri district have been suspended.

2. Kerala Christian Priest Held for Sexually Assaulting Children

A 40-year-old Christian priest was arrested Sunday for allegedly sexually assaulting inmates of a boys' home here, police said.

George alias Jerry was arrested on a complaint lodged by the parents of the children who ran away from the home in Perumbadom near here on Saturday night when he allegedly attempted to sexually assault them, they said.

He was the director of the boys' home which provided shelter and education for children from poor families.

3. Three Dalit Youths Stripped, Beaten up for ‘Theft Bid’ in UP

Three dalits youths were stripped and assaulted by a group on Friday, 5 July, night after they were allegedly caught stealing from a Union Bank customer care service centre in UP’s Jaunpur district.

Police have lodged FIRs against the three youths as well as against three others, who led the mob. A purported video of the assault has gone viral where several people are seen assaulting the three youths sitting on a street.

4. Two Held for East Delhi Bank Heist Bid

Police on Saturday, 6 July, arrested two of the three men who had allegedly attempted to rob a bank in east Delhi’s Krishna Nagar on Tuesday.

The trio allegedly planned the robbery based on several Hollywood movies but their attempt was scuttled after they ran into the bank’s guard.

Police identified the two men as 25-year-old businessman Prabhjot Singh and his associate, a 19-year-old Sukhdev Singh, a BSc student of a Meerut college. Police said they have also identified the third suspect who had allegedly bought a pistol for them to commit the robbery.

5. UP BJP Youth Wing Leader Booked After Wife Shot Dead ‘for Dowry’

A 30-year-old woman, wife of a Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) leader in Barabanki district, was shot dead on Sunday, 7 July, police said. The family members of the woman, Snehlata, alleged that her 31-year-old husband, Rahul Singh, was behind the crime that was the fallout of a dowry issue.

Santosh Upadhyay, senior sub-inspector, Fatehpur police station in Barabanki, said on Saturday night, Rahul Singh registered a complaint against unidentified persons for the murder of his wife.

6. Two Held for Duping 500 of Rs 80 Lakh on Portal

Delhi police’s cyber cell on Saturday, 6 July, arrested two men for allegedly running a fake online shopping portal . Police said the two had duped more than 500 users worth Rs 80 lakh on the pretext of providing them free gifts like LED TVs, phones, laptops among other such items as promotional offers from their company.

Police said the two men Lalit Prasad (25) and his associate Pardeep Kumar (25) were running the fake shopping portal by the name of “www.kart4all.com”.

7. Delhi Man Slits 54-Year-Old Mother’s Throat for Refusing Money to Buy Liquor

A man slit his 54-year-old mother’s throat in northwest Delhi’s Vijay Nagar on Sunday morning. The accused had demanded money to buy liquor, but his mother had refused.

Police said that 23-year-old Deepak Kumar then called up the PCR and informed them about the murder. The weapon used in the crime, along with Kumar’s bloodstained clothes, has been seized.

9. Doctor Shot Dead in Haryana, Ex-Employee Among 3 Held

A 56-year-old doctor was shot dead by three motorcycle-borne persons in Karnal, Haryana on Saturday, 6 July, police said. The suspects, including a former employee who was terminated from services at a hospital owned by the doctor, have been arrested, the police said.

Rajiv Gupta was attacked when he and his driver left the hospital in Chaura Bazar in a vehicle. Three masked men stopped their motorcycle in front of the SUV and fired at Gupta. The doctor, who suffered two bullet wounds, succumbed to injures at a hospital
The main accused, Pawan, and his two accomplices, Raman and Shiv Kumar, were nabbed from the Haryana-Uttar Pradesh border, police said.
