1. Charred Body of Woman Found in Chhattisgarh; Cops Suspect Rape, Murder

The charred body of an unidentified woman, in the 20-30 age group, was found in Chhattisgarh's Balrampur district on Sunday, police said.

The body was recovered from a forest near Gopalpur Murka Dam under Rajpur police station limits after a shepherd spotted it, said an official.

"It seems the death occurred two to three days ago. We suspect the woman was raped and murdered. A bag containing a liquor bottle and some food items were found at the spot. We are awaiting the post-mortem report," he said.

2. Telangana CM Orders Setting up of Fast Track Court for Rape-Murder of Vet

Telangana government has ordered setting up of a fast track court to try the case of the Hyderabad veterinary doctor, who was gang-raped and murdered brutally by four men on the city outskirts on 27 November, said a statement from the chief minister’s office.

According to the statement, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao also described the incident as “ghastly” and sought “stringent punishment” for the culprits while promising all help to the family of the dead woman.

3. Man Paraded Naked for Rape Bid on Minor Girl

A 35-year-old man was paraded naked on Sunday evening by people for trying to rape a four-year-old girl at her house in Pardi area of Nagpur in Maharashtra, police said.

Local people thrashed the accused Jawahar Vaidya, tied his hands with a rope and paraded him naked on streets before handing him over to the police, an official said.

Vaidya works as a daily cash collection agent for a co-operative society bank in the city.

"Vaidya visits the house of the girl everyday for collecting cash. Finding the girl alone on Sunday evening, he tried to sexually assault her. Suddenly, mother of the girl returned home and raised an alarm, following which her neighbours rushed to the spot," the official said.

4. Two Kill Criminal over Old Rivalry in Nagpur

A criminal was brutally killed by two men who allegedly smashed his head with a stone in Khaparkheda area in Maharashtra's Nagpur district on Sunday morning, police said.

A police officer said the accused duo, Rajesh Pendane (30) and Sachin Chauhan (25), allegedly killed Mangesh Bagde (32), who was booked under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA), over old rivalry.

No arrest is made in the case so far.

A police officer said Pendane and Chauhan chased Bagde's motorcycle with their SUV in morning in Khaparkheda area before knocking him down.

5. TV Artist Accuses Ex-MLA's Son of Misbehaviour

A 27-year-old TV artiste on Sunday accused the son of a former MLA, who is now with the BJP, and two of his friends for allegedly misbehaving with her, police said.

The artiste, in a complaint to the police, said Ashish Goud, who is T Nandeshwar Goud's son, and two of his friends misbehaved with her and her friends at a hotel early this morning.

"They (Ashish and friends) pulled our hands, shouted at us and used vulgar language. Also, they threw bottles which were about to hit us," the woman alleged in the complaint.

Also, she alleged a bouncer at the hotel supported Ashish Goud and his friends, and asked her to leave the place, the police said.

6. Three Held in Shimla for Theft in Mumbai Flat

Mumbai police have arrested three men in Himachal Pradesh for allegedly stealing cash and jewellery worth nearly worth Rs 14 lakh from a house in suburban Charkop, an official said.

The trio, who included a security guard of the building where the theft took place, was arrested from Shimla on Wednesday.

As per the complaint lodged by a resident of the building, he had gone on a vacation to Goa with his family on 5 November.

"When he returned home a week later, he found that the the lock of his house's safety door was broken. When he went inside, he was shocked to find that the cupboards were open and cash, jewellery and other valuables worth Rs 13.75 lakh were missing," an official of Charkop police station said.

7. Marathi Actor Sara Shrawan Held in Rs 15 Lakh Extortion Case

Marathi actor Sara Shrawan was arrested by Pune police's Crime Branch from Mumbai in connection with a Rs 15 lakh extortion case, an official said on Sunday.

Shrawan, also known as Sara Sonawane, is the fourth arrest in the case, he said.

Aspiring actor Subhash Yadav, against whom a co-actor had filed a molestation case, approached police later claiming he was being blackmailed for Rs 15 lakh over a video he had shot tendering an apology for the act.

"One of the accused had tried to broker a settlement in the molestation case filed by the woman actor, as part of which Yadav recorded a video apologising for his act. The accused demanded Rs 15 lakh from Yadav in return for not making the video public," he said.

8. 131 Stolen Mobile Phones Recovered, Seven Members of Gang Held

Seven members of a gang were arrested here on Sunday and 131 mobile phones and an iPad, collectively worth over Rs 11 lakh, which were either stolen or snatched from people, were recovered from them, police said.

The phones were stolen/snatched by the gang members from different parts of the city over the last three months, police said.

The arrest was made by the Surat crime branch.

"In the wake of rising incidents of mobile phones of autorickshaw passengers being stolen and other people's phones being snatched by motorcycle-borne criminals, the Surat police had formed a team," a crime branch official said.

9. Muzaffarpur Case: ED Says Kingpin Brajesh Thakur Transferred Govt Funds for Personal Benefits

Brajesh Thakur, the main accused in the sexual assault case of several girls at a shelter home in Bihar's Muzaffarpur, transferred government funds meant for child welfare for his personal benefits and illegal activities, an ED probe has found.

The federal investigation agency had filed a criminal case of money laundering against Thakur, his family members and others in October last year after reports of sexual abuse of minor girls at the shelter house run by Thakur's NGO- Sewa Sankalp Vikas Samiti- came to light.
