1. ‘Case of Honour Killing’: Police on Gaya Minor Girl Who Was Found Beheaded

The Gaya police Thursday claimed to have solved the mystery of the brutal killing of a 16-year-old minor girl, whose beheaded body was recovered on January 6 , and said her family killed her out of a misguided sense of shame.

“It’s a case of honour killing. The girl eloped with someone on December 28 from her home in Patwa panchayat but returned after three days. This angered the parents, who plotted the cold-blooded murder with the help of a butcher friend,” said Gaya senior superintendent of police Rajiv Kumar Mishra. The parents and the butcher have been arrested and they have confessed, he said.

2. Mutilated Body of 15-Yr-Old Girl Found Hanging From Tree in West Bengal’s Malda

Tension gripped Habibpur village in West Bengal’s Malda district Thursday after the partially mutilated body of a 15-year-old girl was found hanging from a tree.

Her upper jaw was smashed and there were injuries all over the body. The victim was a high school student. Her parents are migrant labourers, working in Delhi. The girl used to live with her grandmother but the latter was admitted in a hospital in Bengaluru a few days ago. As a result, she was home-alone. Her relatives lodged a police complaint.

3. Rajasthan: Baby’s Body Split Into 2, Hospital Staff Booked

Police in Rajasthan’s Jaisalmer district have booked two people working at a community health centre (CHC) in Ramgarh for alleged negligence during a woman’s delivery, resulting in the baby’s body being split into two.

Trilok Singh, father of the baby, said, “I had taken my wife to the community health centre in Ramgarh on January 6 for delivery. The doctor wasn’t present there, and the compounder called another person to help him during the delivery. A little while later, when my wife was in severe pain, they said there were complications and the child won’t survive.”

4. Delhi: IAS Officer Claims Lawyer Molested Her at Saket Court

An IAS officer alleged that she was molested by an advocate inside the Saket court complex, and that her husband was beaten up when he tried to intervene, on Thursday afternoon.

An FIR has been registered at Saket police station. Police found CCTV footage from the court complex, which shows the couple being stopped by a group of advocates and pushed after a heated argument.

5. Mumbai: 10 Illegal Cylinders Seized From Gymkhana

THE FIRE brigade seized 10 illegal cylinders from the Bombay Gymkhana in south Mumbai on Thursday. In a fire compliance inspection of the commercial structures in the area, the fire brigade found three LPG cylinders and seven industrial use cylinders stocked in the Gymkhana kitchen. In addition, the electric panel that is supposed to be free of encroachment was blocked by cartons.

Upon finding irregularities, the fire brigade went on to serve a notice to the Bombay Gymkhana. It now has 15 days to regularise and comply with the fire safety norms.

6. Assamese Intellectuals, Two Others Booked for Sedition

A sedition case was slapped on leading Assamese intellectual Hiren Gohain, journalist Manjit Mahanta and RTI-farmer activist Akhil Gogoi on Thursday even as protests against the Citizenship (Amendement) Bill, 2016 continued in Assam.

Police slapped on the trio charges under IPC sections 120B (criminal conspiracy), 121 (waging was against the State), 123 (concealing designs to wage war against State) and 124A (sedition)

7. Delhi: Three Years After He ‘Killed, Buried Nephew in Balcony’, Man Arrested

On some days, he was Rahul; on others, he preferred Ravindra. To those who know him, 37-year-old Bijay Kumar Maharana is a blonde, dance-obsessed, aspiring actor in Hyderabad. On January 6, Delhi Police arrested Maharana, who has been accused of murdering and then burying his 26-year-old nephew, Jai Prakash Maharana, beneath the flowerbed of his rented Dwarka house in 2016.

The incident came to light only in October 2018, when labourers working in the balcony of the third-floor house in Dabri’s Chanakya Place-I discovered the skeletal remains.

8. DRI Arrests Two, Recovers Gold Biscuits Worth Rs 3.77 Crore Near Indo-Bangladesh Border

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence busted a smuggling racket, arrested two persons and recovered gold biscuits worth Rs 3.77 crore from them, said officials. Acting on a tip-off, officials intercepted the two accused as they were deboarding a Gede-Ranaghat local train at Majhdia railway station, near the India-Bangladesh border on January 7.

The gold had been concealed in specially-tailored waist belts.
