QCrime: 6-Year-Old Raped, Killed in J&K; Station Master Found Dead

1. 6-Year-Old Raped, Killed in Jammu and Kashmir’s Samba

A 6-year-old tribal girl, hailing from Bihar, was allegedly raped and killed by a youth in Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said on Tuesday, 12 November.

The 21-year-old accused, identified as Vishal alias Chotu from Madhya Pradesh, has confessed to the crime and has been arrested and booked under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and under POCSO Act, Samba senior superintendent of police (SSP) Shakti Pathak said.

The minor was the lone child of her parents, he said. The incident took place at a slum inhabited by a group of labourers in the industrial area of Rakhamtali late on Monday.

2. Diamond Harbour Station Master Found Dead in Drain

The station master of Diamond Harbour railway station in West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district was found dead under mysterious circumstances in a drain near his rented house on Sunday, 10 November.

According to police sources, the local people identified him as station master Nirmal Kumar on Monday. Prima facie, police are suspecting it to be a murder.

As per sources, Kumar, who hailed from neighbouring Bihar, went to the local market on Saturday, but did not return till late.

3. Two Held for Stealing from Bengaluru Doctor’s House

Two women were arrested on Tuesday, 12 November for stealing gold and diamond jewellery from the residence of Dr Devi Prasad Shetty, chairman-founder of Narayana Health, in Koramangala on 26 October.

Divya, a native Soraba in Shivamogga district, and Jayanthi of Kundapura are the suspects. Gold jewellery, including bracelets, pendants, rings and necklaces, were stolen from his son Anish Shetty’s room. A complaint was filed.

4. Extortionists Set Bikes on Fire, Get Shot by Police

Two people who tried to attack their way out of capture came under fire from policemen after their bid to extort money from a man went awry.

Mohammed Riaz (21) and Mohammed Basith (23) set fire to vehicles inside the man’s house to intimidate him into paying the amount. Having to confront the police who came to detain them, the duo wielded a knife in an escape bid and were shot and arrested. Riaz and Basith hail from Tamil Nadu and have been in the city for nearly a year and a half.

5. 20-year-old Woman Raped by Relative

A man was booked for allegedly raping his 20-year-old relative and threatening to leak a video of the incident. The police said that the man’s sister also allegedly threatened the victim.

According to the police, the incident took place in August when she was alone at her house in Gurugram and her brother had gone out for work. The woman filed a complaint on Monday, 11 November.

In her police complaint, she alleged that the suspect lives with her uncle in her neighbourhood. He forced himself on her in the house in August and raped her, she said.

6. Rajkot: Man Found Dead, Wife, ‘Paramour’ Arrested

Three days after a man was found dead in Kothariya Solvant area of the city, the police arrested his wife and her “paramour” on Tuesday, 12 November claiming that the duo plotted the man’s murder as he was physically abusing the woman.

A team of Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) led by police inspector Hitesh Gadhvi arrested Mayur alias Maylo Chavadiya and Kiran (40), wife of Paresh alias Pavlo Gohel in connection with the alleged murder of Paresh.

Paresh, a resident of Machhonagar area of the city, was found dead in an open plot in Kothariya Solvant area in the wee hours of Saturday. The city police alleged that he was murdered by Chavadiya and that Paresh’s wife Kiran was also part of the murder conspiracy.

7. Supreme Court Upholds Life Term of Chandigarh Man Who Killed His Wife

The Supreme Court (SC) has upheld life imprisonment awarded to a Chandigarh man by a trial court for strangling his wife to death and setting the body on fire in 2012.

Vajinder Paul, a resident of Sector 20, and his paramour, Renu Bains, a resident of a Hoshiarpur village, were convicted for murdering Pooja, 32, on 13 July, 2012. The Punjab and Haryana high court had upheld the sentence in January 2019

Subsequently, Paul filed an appeal before the apex court in October, while Bains did not contest the sentence.

However, the SC bench of justice Mohan M Shantanagoudar and justice Ajay Rastogi dismissed Paul’s appeal in the first hearing on 25 October, whose proceedings were recently made available.

8. Bihar Panchayat Asks Minor Rape Victim to ‘Sell Baby’

Muzaffarpur Police on Monday, 11 November, ordered a probe into allegations of a panchayat asking a teenage rape victim to sell her newborn.

An FIR was lodged under sections of the IPC and POCSO Act after the 15-year-old girl, who was allegedly sexually assaulted by a local Muslim cleric and later by an electrician, filed a complaint in July. The accused are absconding.

The minor approached the local panchayat two days ago with a demand that a DNA test must be conducted to identify the baby’s father, who should accept the two as his family. However, she was allegedly told by the panchayat to “sell her newborn son”.

9. Posing as MLA's Son, Man Abducts and Rapes Jobseeker

A man claiming to be the son of an MLA allegedly abducted and raped a 26-year-old woman after promising her a job in his hotel.

Police are questioning the suspect, identified as Jahangeer alias Karthik Reddy, but are yet to arrest him. In a police complaint, the woman said the suspect introduced himself as Karthik Reddy and claimed his father was an MLA.

He said he owned a chain of hotels and hospitals in and around Bengaluru and offered her a job after learning that she was looking for one.
