QCrime: 5-Year-Old Beaten to Death; Couple Found Dead in Noida

1. Wanted Man Held for Involvement in 35 Criminal Cases

The police on Wednesday, 22 May, arrested a 37-year-old man from Tauru in Nuh, for his alleged involvement in cases of dacoity, robbery, attempt to murder, ATM thefts, and carjacking reported from parts of Rajasthan, Nuh and Gurugram. The police allegedly recovered a countrymade pistol from his possession, the police said.

The suspect, Irshad, was arrested when he was allegedly trying to snatch an SUV at gunpoint on the Gurgaon-Jaipur Expressway on Wednesday evening. He was out on bail in a case of dacoity for which he had been arrested in Pataudi in 2016.

Irshad will be produced before the court on Thursday and the police said they will request his custody for three days.

2. Woman Alleges Gang Rape in Car in South Delhi

A 26-year-old woman from Rajasthan has alleged she was gang raped in a car by two men who offered her a lift in south Delhi’s Fatehpur Beri on Sunday, 19 May night, police said.

The Maruti Swift car allegedly used in the crime has been seized and the two suspects have been held for questioning but police are yet to arrest them. “The evidences and facts are being checked before we make any arrests,” said Vijay Kumar, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South).

The woman lives in Rajasthan’s Alwar district with her eight-year-old son.

3. Cab Driver Held for Robbing Passengers

A cab driver has been arrested with his two associates for robbing people by offering them a lift in his Wagon R car attached to an app-based platform, police said on Wednesday, 22 May.

Anto Alphonse, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka), said the cab was used at least twice for such robberies – once last week and the other time last year.

But the victims were not passengers who booked the cab via the app-based platform. “Random people would be offered lift at very low prices, with the sole intention of robbing them during the ride,” said the DCP.

The cab driver is 24-year-old Pritam, a resident of Jhajjar. The DCP said he had bought a Wagon R car and attached it with the app-based platform but couldn’t make enough money to pay for the vehicle’s loan.

4. 5-Year-Old Beaten to Death; Mother, Stepfather Held in TN

The Tamil Nadu police on Wednesday, 22 May, arrested a 35-year-old mother and her second husband for allegedly murdering her five-year-old daughter in Kattuputhur near Trichy on Monday, 20 May, officers familiar with the matter said.

According to an initial investigation, the child was beaten to death with a coconut leaf stalk and a PVC pipe, they said.

While the mother – Nithya Kamalam – had initially told hospital authorities that her daughter was beaten for not obeying and watching too much TV, an FIR filed by the police recorded the reason as a lack of interest in sports and physical exercise. Her second husband Muthupandian is a physical education teacher in the same school where she teaches. A senior officer probing the case said Nithya and Muthupandian were arrested under IPC section 302 for murder and the case is being investigated.

5. Man Allegedly Strangles Father, Chops Body into 35 Pieces

A 48-year-old businessman was strangled to death, allegedly by his son, who then chopped his body into 35 pieces. The incident took place in Delhi’s Farsh Bazar on Monday, 20 May night. The suspect has been arrested and police are conducting raids to nab his associate.

Police said the victim, Sandesh Aggarwal, ran a cosmetics shop.

“Sandesh’s son, Aman (22), was arrested on Tuesday night when he was allegedly going to dispose his father’s body. The victim’s brother, Aadesh Aggarwal, had filed a complaint at Farsh Bazar police station Tuesday afternoon about Sandesh going missing. He informed police after he caught his nephew red-handed with bags outside their house,” said DCP (Shahdara) Meghna Yadav.

6. Faridkot Custodial Death Case: Gunman, Cop Who Took Own Life Booked

Four days after 22-year-old Jaspal Singh was found dead in the custody of Faridkot’s CIA office, police registered an FIR against CIA in-charge Narinder Singh, who had committed suicide on Sunday, and his gunman Gurpreet Singh on charges of abetment to suicide.

Meanwhile, Punjab Ekta Party (PEP) president Sukhpal Khaira, PEP’s Khadoor Sahib candidate Paramjeet Kaur Khalra and AAP MLA Kultar Singh Sandhwan met Jaspal’s family, who is sitting on a dharna alleging that Jaspal was killed in custody and demanding that his body be handed over.

AAP president Bhagwant Mann also released a video message on his Facebook page expressing support to the family and demanding that the culprits be booked.

7. Delhi College Student Alleges Sexual Assault by Guard on Campus

A security guard of a Delhi University girls' college was arrested by Delhi Police on Wednesday, 22 May, after a student complained of being sexually assaulted by him on the college premises.

According to the police, the accused had made friends with the girl back in August last year. However, about 12 days ago the accused, identified as Raj Kumar alias Raju, allegedly spiked the complainant's cold drink when she was alone in a classroom.

Raj Kumar who was hired on a contract basis by the college, then allegedly sexually assaulted her in a classroom.

"The incident occurred about 12 days ago when Raj Kumar offered a spiked cold drink to the victim, as they were friends she accepted it without any suspicion," a senior police officer said.

8. Rajasthan Sarpanch's Husband Shot While Mediating Marriage Dispute

A village sarpanch's husband was shot dead in broad daylight on Wednesday, 22 May, when he was mediating a marriage dispute in Rajakheda of Rajasthan's Dholpur district, police said.

Baby Sharma's husband Santosh Sharma, 50, along with other villagers, had gone to mediate in a marriage dispute at one Devendra Sharma's residence, senior cop Ajay Singh said.

During the mediation, Devendra Sharma's son Raghvendra Sharma shot at Santosh Sharma, the police officer said.

9. Partially Decomposed Bodies of Couple Found in Noida Apartment

The partially decomposed bodies of a husband and wife were found from an apartment Noida, on Wednesday, 22 May, at least four days after the incident, police said.

Shashi Tyagi (56) and Renu Tyagi (52) were residents of Noida’s Supreme Tower in Sector 99. Their bodies were discovered after neighbours complained of a foul odour emanating from the apartment, the police said.

"When police were alerted, they reached the house and had to break open the door, which was bolted from inside. The husband's body was found hanging from a ceiling fan in one room, while the wife's body was lying under the bed in the other room," a police official said.
