QChennai: Helpline to Report Flooding; Man Kills Self During Raids

1. 24x7 Helpline to Report Flooding in Chennai

The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has launched a 24*7 helpline to report water stagnation and flooding. Residents can call 044-25384520, 044-25384530, 044-25384540 or WhatsApp 9445477205, which operates from Ripon Buildings’ control room, said Commissioner G Prakash, in a statement on Sunday.

As part of preparedness, the civic body has kept boats at 109 places to rescue people during flooding. For accommodating affected people, 176 community halls and four common halls to cook for 1,500 people are kept ready. Further, food for rescued people will be available at all Amma Canteens and drinking water will be available from 50 Amma Kudineer water dispensers.

2. Chennai Accountant Kills Self in Office During Income Tax Search

When the I-T officials were winding up their search around 12 pm, they found Senthil hanging in an office room.

A 38-year-old accountant allegedly killed himself inside his office, where an income tax raid was in progress in Adyar late on Saturday night, 30 November. Police suspect that he took the extreme step as a hard disk containing ‘obscene movies’ was found in his cabin during the raid.

Senthil Kumar of Vadapalani was employed at Ashwini Fisheries, a fish exporting company on Canal cross road in Adyar. Shankar, a relative of the deceased said, “On Saturday around 10 pm he had called his wife saying that he was feeling depressed and frustrated due to office work. He asked her to take care of their kids and disconnected the call.” When the I-T officials were winding up their search around 12 pm, they found Senthil hanging in an office room.

3. Coimbatore Cops Yet to Nab Two Accused of Sexually Assaulting Teenager in Park

Three special teams formed by the Coimbatore city police are still on the lookout for two men accused in the sexual assault of a 17-year-old girl at a park in Seeranaickenpalayam in the district. A total of six men, all daily wage workers, were accused, four of whom are already being held by the police.

The incident occurred on 26 November and arrests have been made based on a complaint from Class 11 student from Coimbatore who was celebrating her birthday in a park with a male friend. These six men attacked her friend and chased him away, following which they disrobed the minor.

4. Tiruchy: 3 Die Amid Widespread Rains in Delta Districts

Normalcy in the delta districts of Tiruchy, Karur, Perambalur, Ariyalur, Pudukkottai, Tiruvarur and Nagapattinam was disrupted due to heavy rains, which persisted for the third day on Saturday, 30 November.

The rains have claimed three lives so far in Ariyalur, Pudukkottai, and Tiruvarur districts and wall collapses reported from several places. Brimming water bodies in many places pose threat of breach to their bunds, especially in Jayankondam area in Ariyalur district and most parts in Pudukkottai districts, official sources told.

5. Man Misbehaves with Airline Woman Staffer

Airport police are conducting enquiries with a 30-year-old passenger from Uttar Pradesh for allegedly harassing private airline woman staffer at the Chennai Airport, on Saturday. The Lucknow-bound passenger was offloaded and handed over to the airport police.

Sources said, around 3 pm, Chizu was waiting in the queue along with other air passengers to receive his boarding pass from the counter. Police said a 25-year-old woman employee of the private airlines was giving him the boarding pass. Police said, when the girl gave him the pass, he allegedly attempted to hold her hand. The girl, however, managed to pull herself back and informed the airline's authority.
