1. B’luru Top Cop: Will Reply to Calls in 7 Secs

Bengaluru city police commissioner Bhaskar Rao, who had last week urged all women to reach out to police in any situation of distress in the wake of rape and murder of a doctor in Hyderabad, on Monday told his personnel to treat all calls as seriously as a bomb threat.

“Any call will be replied to in seven seconds. Don’t ignore any call as a prank call — treat them on priority and respond first,” Rao said in a message on police wireless network.

He said no personnel should refrain from responding citing jurisdiction.

“The Supreme Court is very clear on this, so don’t turn people away citing jurisdiction. First respond, act. Then, transfer the case,” Rao said. TNN

2. 8-Year-Old Girl Murdered, Allegedly Raped in Karnataka

An eight-year-old girl has been murdered after allegedly being raped in Yakapur village in Chincholi Taluk of the district on Monday. The victim is studying in the second standard.

The girl who was attending school regularly had remained absent on Monday.  The villagers had seen the girl wandering with Yallappa of the same village in the afternoon. When she did not return home from the school, the parents started searching for her. Meanwhile, they came to know that she was with Yallappa. When he was inquired, he tried to evade and said that he was not aware of the girl.

The suspicious parents informed Sulepet police. The villagers handed over Yallappa to the police.

3. How Will you Rehabilitate Slum Dwellers? HC Asks Govt

Karnataka High Court.

The high court has ordered the state government and the BBMP to specify the steps to rehabilitate people who are set to be evicted from a slum on Narayanapura Borewell Road in eastern Bengaluru.

Justice Sunil Dutt Yadav gave the direction while hearing a writ petition filed by H C Leela and 48 others on Monday. The petitioners’ counsel informed the court that the BBMP had served notices to the residents to vacate the slum, saying it encroached upon a lake. The residents have been living there for the past four decades. The next hearing is on Wednesday.

4. Fadnavis Denies Being 80-Hr CM to ‘Return Rs 40,000 Cr to Centre’

In a shocking confession on the political drama that unfolded in Maharashtra last month, BJP MP Ananth Hegde has now said that Devendra Fadnavis was made the chief minister of the state to move back funds worth Rs 40,000 crore to the Centre, so that it isn’t “misused”. He also said it was a “drama” that was “planned much before”.

Speaking at a gathering at his constituency Uttara Kannada in Karnataka, Hegde said, “You all know our man in Maharashtra became CM for 80 hours. Fadnavis then resigned – why did he do this drama? Didn't we know that we didn't have majority? And yet he became CM. This is the question everyone asks.”

5. Police Warn Bunks Against Selling Fuel in Bottles, Cans

Petrol Pump. 

After news broke that police may take action against a fuel station that sold petrol in bottles to those accused of raping and murdering a 27-year-old veterinary doctor in Hyderabad, petrol pumps here started cracking down on the practice.

Police pointed out that memos have been issued to petrol pumps across the city, directing them not to sell petrol or diesel in bottles or cans.

The accused in the Hyderabad rape-murder case allegedly obtained petrol in bottles and cans and used it to set the woman’s body on fire.

Police commissioner Bhasker Rao said any call to the control room will get a response within seven seconds. “Even if there is a prank call, we will not complain about it. Public safety is our priority.’’ A few petrol pumps, meanwhile, have put up notices informing customers that petrol/diesel will not be sold in bottles and cans.
