1. Bengaluru Digs Deep to Pull Kodagu out of Deep Waters
“We drink Cauvery water which originates from Kodagu and it’s time for us to do our bit for the district which is in deep distress due to unprecedented floods,” is the message doing the rounds on social media, asking people to offer help to the flood-affected in the Coffee Land.
Awake to help Coorg, #help coorg #kodagu floods are being used to get donors to help people in the region, who have been affected by torrential rains, landslides and raging rivers.
As the flood waters are receding, the people of Kodagu have hit the panic button as the threat of epidemics loom. To keep disaster-hit areas clean, the BBMP has dispatched a batch of 300 pourakarmikas and over 100 mobile toilets and e-toilets. The Palike has also sent medical staff and officials to monitor the relief work.

2. BASE Students Likely to Visit London School of Economics
The Bengaluru Ambedkar School of Economics (BASE), that is slowly taking shape in the state and has around 50 students, has decided to stay committed to a knowledge-sharing model. On Tuesday, 21 August, experts discussed how the institutions can become among the top schools of Economics in the country: To begin with, its students will get an opportunity to visit the London School of Economics for a period of one month.
This was discussed at the governing council meeting of BASE attended by higher education minister GT Devegowda and minister for social welfare Priyank Kharge.
BASE governing council members like former deputy chairman of the planning commission of India, Montek Singh Ahulwalia, chairperson of the Infosys Foundation Sudha Narayan Murthy, former MP Rajya Sabha and former vice-chancellor of Mumbai University Dr BL Mungekar and other experts from the state had discussions on how the students can get first-hand experience in a top school of economics.

3. Uttarakhand CM Meets Karnataka Business Leaders
Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat on Tuesday, 21 August met Karnataka business leaders in Bengaluru ahead of a roadshow to be held there to project Uttarakhand as an investment destination.
The exercise is being carried out in the run up to the investors summit slated to be held here in October.
'Destination Uttarakhand: Investors Summit' the first-of-its-kind being held here between 7 and 8 October would be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The chief minister met various business leaders and informed them about investment opportunities in the state, an official release here said.

4. 23-Year-Old Bengaluru Techie Found Murdered
A 23-year-old software engineer was found murdered at her house in Whitefield police station limits on Sunday night. Police suspect her boyfriend could be involved in the murder. The deceased is Vijayalakshmi, a native of New Delhi.
Police said, “Vijayalakshmi had come to the city about three months ago and was working in a software company. She had rented a house in Immadihalli in Whitefield and was living alone. The incident came to light on Sunday night when the house owner sensed a foul smell emanating from her house, located on the second floor of the building, and alerted the police.”

5. Bangalore Airport Second Fastest Growing Airport in the World
The Kempe Gowda International Airport (KIA) has emerged as the second fastest growing airport in the world in the first half of 2018 in terms of actual growth in passengers. It has recorded 1,58,50,352 flyers during the six-month period, with an addition of 41,80,852 passengers over the corresponding period last year.
Only Tokyo's Haneda International has bettered KIA's growth. RoutesOnline, a company focussing on the quality and standards of aviation globally, on Tuesday made public its report on major airports in the world.
Only airports which have crossed a figure of 2.5 million passengers in the first six months of 2018 have been considered for analysis.
