QAhmedabad: Riot Victims Urge SIT to Expedite Trial & More

1. 2002 Riot Victims Urge SIT to Expedite Trial

Seventeen years have passed since the 2002 riots and the victims-witnesses in the Naroda Gam case are running out of patience with the trial. They requested the Supreme Court appointed Special Investigation Team (SIT) to ensure that court proceedings are held on a day to day basis, as directed by the apex court.

Naroda Gam is the only trial left out of the nine cases transferred to the SIT for further investigation by the SC. Advocate MA Shaikh who represents some of the witnesses wrote to the SIT complaining about long adjournments. In his letter written in July he highlighted a 54-day long summer break in hearings in the summer.

Witnesses have pointed out that the hearings were held for only 45 days in 2018.
