Indian shuttler PV Sindhu has lost the latest edition of her fierce rivalry with Spain’s Carolina Marin with the World Number 4 winning their Singapore Open quarter-final with ease.
A 21-11 and 21-15 scoreline to avenge her loss to Sindhu in New Delhi on 2 April, Marin now moves into the semifinals of the Superseries event.
Earlier this week, there was disappointment for Sindhu after she had to concede her career-best world number 2 rankings after a shock first-round exit from the Malaysia Open Super Series.
She is now once again ranked 5th in the world.
Among the other Indians in action in Singapore, men's singles shuttler B. Sai Praneeth advanced to the semi-finals, while the mixed doubles pair of B. Sumeeth Reddy and Ashwini Ponnappa lost in the quarter-finals.
Praneeth fought hard to get the better of Thai eighth seed Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk 15-21, 21-14, 21-19 in an hour and 11 minutes at the Singapore Indoor Stadium. Sumeeth-Ashwini couldn't mount a challenge against the Chinese third seeded pair of Lu Kai and Huang Yaqiong, who took only 27 minutes to win 21-11, 21-8.
