Punjab sees 8 more COVID deaths, 253 new cases

Chandigarh, Jan 1 (PTI) Eight more deaths due to COVID-19 in Punjab raised the toll to 5,349 on Friday, while 253 fresh cases took the infection count to 1,66,770 in the state, according to a medical bulletin.

There are 3,517 active cases of the novel coronavirus in the state, the bulletin said.

Among fresh COVID-19 cases in the state, 55 were reported in Mohali, 27 in Ludhiana and 21 in Jalandhar 21.

The recovery count in Punjab reached 1,57,904 with 408 more coronavirus patients getting discharged afer recovering from the infection, according to the bulletin.

Eighteen critical COVID-19 patients are on ventilator support while 75 are on oxygen support, the bulletin said.

A total of 39,21,171 samples have been collected for COVID-19 testing in the state, it said. PTI CHS VSD CK
