A Godman and his son have been booked by police on charges of sexual abuse and blackmail of women on the pretext of ‘removing black spell’ on them.

An FIR in this regard has been registered with Samarth police station against Nandkumar Vasant Bhagwat (68) and his son Abhijit (35), who live in Rasta Peth.

A police official from Samarth police station said the accused have allegedly been abusing and exploiting women for financial gain for many years. On Sunday, a group of women who went to the house of the suspects assaulted the father-son duo and turned them over to the police.

Police said the duo allegedly blackmailed the women, threatening them to circulate their videos shot under the pretext of removing “black magic spell”. The duo have been booked under sections of the Indian Penal Code pertaining to sexual abuse, criminal intimidation and cheating along with sections of Maharashtra Prevention and Eradication of Human Sacrifice and other Inhuman, Evil and Aghori Practices and Black Magic Act.

“We have registered a complaint based on the complaint of one woman. But we have reasons to believe that more women have been victimised. We have launched a probe,” said an officer from Samarth police station.
