rises to 41,728 Puducherry, Apr 1 (PTI) Puducherry logged 260 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours taking the overall tally to 41,728, a senior official of the Department of Health and Family Welfare services said on Thursday.
A 72-year old male patient died in the government general hospital during the last 24 hours ending 10 AM Thursday, taking the toll to 683, Director of Health and Family Welfare Services S Mohan Kumar said in a release.
The deceasedhad comorbidities, he added.
The 260 new cases were identified at the end of the examination of 2,355 samples and were spread over Puducherry (190), Karaikal (54) and Mahe (16).
Also, 43 patients were discharged after recovery during the last 24 hours.
As many as 6.73 lakh samples have been examined so far and of them 6.22 lakh turned out to be negative, he said adding the overall COVID-19 tally was 41,728.
The Health department Director said there were 1,290 active cases (317 in hospitals and 973 in home quarantine).
So far, 39,755 patients have been discharged after recovery, he added.
The fatality and recovery rates were 1.64 per cent and 95.27 per cent respectively.
Mohan Kumar said as many as 27,236 healthcare workers and 13,352 frontline workers have been vaccinated against Covid so far.
He said that 31,567 people coming under the senior citizens category (above 60 years) or those above 45 years with comorbidities have been vaccinated so far.PTI Cor SS PTI PTI PTI
