Puducherry logs 22 fresh COVID-19 cases, overall tally rises

to 39,954 Puducherry, Mar 11 (PTI) Puducherry logged 22 new coronavirus cases during the last 24 hours taking the overall tally in the union territory to 39,954, a top official of the Health Department said on Thursday.

No fresh fatality was reported from any of the four regions in the Union Territory, Director of Health and Family Welfare Services S Mohan Kumar said, adding the toll remained at 670.

The 21 fresh cases were identified at the end of the examination of 1,201 samples during the last 24 hours and 21 patients were discharged after recovery, he added.

The Puducherry region reported 20 new cases while the two others were from Karaikal, Mohan Kumar said, adding Mahe and Yanam regions did not report any fresh infections.

The fatality and recovery rates were 1.68 per cent and 97.88 per cent respectively.

The Health department Director said that 6.43 lakh samples have been tested so far in the Union Territory and it was found that 5.97 lakh samples were negative.

The overall COVID-19 tally in Puducherry stood at 39,954.

There were 176 active cases and 39,108 patients had recovered and discharged so far.

Mohan Kuamr said 11,564 healthcare workers and 3,872 frontline workers have been vaccinated so far.

The second phase of vaccination which began on March 1 to cover those above 60 years and those above 45 years with comorbidities has so far benefitted 6,209 people here, he added.

Chief Secretary to the Puducherry administration Ashwani Kumar had his second dose of vaccination Thursday at the Indira Gandhi Government Hospital here, official sources said.PTI Cor SS PTI PTI
