Puducherry logs 137 fresh COVID-19 cases, overall tally rises

to 41,101 Puducherry, Mar 28 (PTI) Puducherry added 137 new coronavirus cases during last 24 hours taking overall tally in the union territory to 41,101, a senior official of Department of Health and Family Welfare Services said on Sunday.

The 137 new cases were identified at the end of the examination of 2,020 samples, Director of the Department S Mohan Kumar said in a release.

The fresh infections were spread over Puducherry (92), Karaikal (37) and Mahe (eight).

Yanam, an enclave of Puducherry in Andhra Pradesh, did not report any fresh cases.

He said 76 patients recovered and were discharged during the last 24 hours ending 10 AM Sunday.

The number of active cases in the union territory stood at 907, including 633 home quarantined patients while 39,514 patients had recovered and were discharged so far.

The death toll remained at 680 as no fatality was reported in the last 24 hours, the Health department Director said.

As many as 6.65 lakh samples have been examined so far and 6.16 lakh of them turned out to be negative.

The fatality and recovery rates were 1.65 per cent and 96.14 per cent respectively.

Mohan Kumar said that 24,950 healthcare workers and 10,467 frontline workers have been vaccinated so far while 27,382 people coming under the category of senior citizens (60 years and above) and those above 45 years with comorbidities have also been vaccinated since March 1.PTI Cor SS PTI PTI
