Puducherry adds 70 new COVID-19 cases, no fresh fatalities

Puducherry, Nov 2 (PTI) The union territory of Puducherry reported no fresh COVID-19 death while the new infections dipped to 70, a top Health department official said on Monday.

The fresh cases were identified at the end of the examination of 2,820 samples, Director of Health and Family Welfare S Mohan Kumar said in a release.

The number of new cases remained below the 100 mark for a second straight day after 96 infections were detected on Sunday.

As many as 482 patients were discharged from hospitals in the last 24 hours, he added.

The union territory had last week recorded no coronavirus deaths on four days after having reported no related fatality on October 18 for the first time in the month.

He said the overall Covid-19 tally in the union territory stood at 35,178 (after transfer of one case to Tamil Nadu).

There were 2,956 active cases while 31,627 patients were treated and discharged so far, he said, adding the number of deaths remained at 595.

The fatality and recovery rates were 1.69 per cent and 89.91 per cent respectively.

The Health department Director said that of the 3.14 lakh samples tested so far 2.76 lakh samples were found to be negative and the result of examination of remaining specimens was awaited.

Karaikal did not report any new case during the last twenty four hours while the Puducherry region accounted for 62 of 70 new cases followed by Yanam (6) and Mahe (2). PTI Cor SS PTI PTI
