Puducherry adds 61 fresh COVID-19 cases, overall tally rises

to 40,262 Puducherry, Mar 19 (PTI) Puducherry reported 61 new COVID-19 cases during the last 24 hours taking the overall tally to 40,262, a senior official of the Department of Health and Family Welfare Services said on Friday.

No fresh fatality was reported from any of the four regions of Puducherry, Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam, Director of the department S Mohan Kumar said in a release.

The death toll remained at 674, he added.

The number of active cases in the union territory stood at 317, he said, adding 39,271 patients had recovered and were discharged so far.

The Puducherry region accounted for 39 of the 61 fresh cases while Karaikal and Mahe had 15 and 7 respectively. Yanam did not report any fresh case during the last 24 hours ending 10 AM Friday, he said.

The new cases were identified at the end of the examination of 1,347 samples, Mohan Kumar said.

The fatality and recovery rates were 1.67 per cent and 97.54 per cent respectively.

As many as 6.50 lakh samples have been tested so far and of them 6.04 lakh were found to be negative, he said.

The Health department Director said that 17,277 healthcare workers and 6,249 frontline workers have been vaccinated so far.

The second phase of vaccination of those above 60 years and those above 45 years with comorbidities has benefitted so far 14,708 people.PTI Cor SS PTI PTI PTI
