Puducherry adds 1,008 new COVID-19 cases, 11 deaths push toll to 748

Puducherry, Apr 25 (PTI) The union territory of Puducherry logged 1,008 fresh coronavirus cases during the last 24 hours pushing the overall tally to 53,279, a senior Health department official said on Sunday.

Eleven patients (seven men and four women) succumbed to the virus during the last 24 hours ending 10 AM taking the toll to 748, Director of Health and Family Welfare Services S Mohan Kumar said.

The deceased included a 29-year old male patient while the others were in the age group ranging between 42 and 89.

Puducherry accounted for 10 of the 11 deaths while one patient hailed from the Yanam region, the Health department Director said.

The 1,008 new cases were identified at the end of examination of 5,632 patients, he said.

The Puducherry region accounted for 815 new cases while Karaikal reported 101, followed by Yanam (40) and Mahe (52).

The test fatality rate was 17.89 per cent which is highest so far in Puducherry.

The Health department Director said that the fatality and recovery rates were 1.40 per cent and 84.92 per cent respectively.

He said that 7.64 lakh samples have been examined so far and it was found that 6.88 lakh were negative.

Mohan Kumar said 476 patients were discharged during the last 24 hours.

The number of active cases stood at 7,288 which included 5,901 home quarantined patients.

As many as 45,243 patients recovered and were discharged so far.

He said so far 31,271 healthcare workers and 18,371 frontline workers have been vaccinated so far.

As many as 1,14,475 people coming either under senior citizens (sixty years and above) category or under 45 years and above with comorbidities had been covered under vaccination drive in the union territory.PTI Cor SS PTI PTI
