Priyanka defends Robert Vadra, says her husband is being humiliated

While campaigning in Rae Bareli, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra lashed out at political rivals who levelled corruption charges against her husband Robert Vadra.

RAE BARELI: Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said on Tuesday that the Congress will 'fight back' against all those who have 'maligned' the Gandhi family.

While campaigning in Rae Bareli, from where her mother, Sonia, is contesting the polls, Priyanka lashed out at political rivals who have levelled corruption charges against her husband Robert Vadra.

"There is a change in the way politics is being done in the current elections. My husband and the entire Gandhi family is being humiliated. My family is being attacked for the past two years. My husband has been used for the political attacks. The Congress will fight back with determination," Priyanka said at a rally here.

She said that she was saddened by the way politics was being done in the country.

"India is a liberal nation. I am deeply saddened by the way harsh language was used to attack the political leaders during the political campaigns," she said.

"I have learned from Indira Gandhi that strong determination acts as a shield. The Congress party will fight back with determination," she added.

The opposition has come out all guns blazing against the Gandhi family and has launched a direct attack on Vadra over his alleged involvement in illegal land deals.

Priyanka also urged the voters to vote for development, progress and unity of the nation.

"It is because of Sonia Gandhi ji, that this place has seen so much of development. It is because of her there is electricity, water, roads, and several other facilities in Rae Bareli. I request you to vote for development, progress and unity of the nation," Priyanka said.
