With much of the world still in lockdown, Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan had to get a little creative for their second anniversary festivities at home in Los Angeles on Tuesday.
BAZAAR.com understands that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex enjoyed a low-key anniversary celebration, spending part of the day looking back at their 2018 wedding with a number of people over video calls—including some of the vendors who helped bring their Windsor Castle ceremony and receptions to life.
"They all reminisced about what a beautiful and magical day it was," says a source, who adds that the couple also Zoom-called close friends and family members throughout the day.
And with the Sussexes now based in Los Angeles, it only seemed right to celebrate with a Southern Californian favourite: Mexican food. The couple, who also exchanged cotton-based gifts per tradition, enjoyed a number of favorite dishes together, washed down with margaritas.
The home celebrations made for a rare day off for Harry and Meghan, who have been busy behind the scenes supporting efforts to tackle the coronavirus crisis and planning the launch of their nonprofit organisation, Archewell.
"The day will simply be quality time with one another and as a family," a source close to the couple told BAZAAR earlier this week of the couple's anniversary plans. "They're not going to be doing any work and have made sure there are no meetings or calls in the diary."
On May 14, the duke and duchess joined a Crisis Text Line team meeting to thank staff and offer words of encouragement. Access to mental health resources during the pandemic has been hugely in demand, and the Atlanta-based crisis intervention text service has become an essential resource for many, offering free, 24/7 support to anyone who needs it.
In the past month, Harry and Meghan have virtually connected with a number of organisations close to them, including the Hubb Community Kitchen, WellChild, Smart Works, competitors of the Invictus Games, and even military veterans, who they honored for VE Day.
