Two previously unseen portraits of the royal family have been released by Clarence House to mark Prince Charles' 70th birthday.

The heir to the throne is pictured sitting on a bench surrounded by his closest family in the sweet images. They were taken by royal photographer Chris Jackson in the gardens of Charles' official residence, Clarence House, in London.

Charles' grandson, Prince George, can be seen sitting on his knee wearing navy shorts and a shirt, with Princess Charlotte smiling next to Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall.

Charles' youngest grandchild, Prince Louis, is held by his mother, the Duchess of Cambridge, who stands alongside the Duke of Cambridge and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

In keeping with the blue and cream colour theme, Meghan is wearing a navy and white belted shift dress in the photo. Kate is dressed in a polka dot dress midi dress by Alessandra Rich (a similar style is available here).

A second, more candid shot was also released, showing the family laughing together.

The group shot appears to have been taken at the same time as a recent photo of Charles with Kate and Louis that surfaced online last week, as Kate is seen wearing the same dress and Charles is dressed in the same pinstripe suit.

From releasing a TV documentary about the royal to a new set of commemorative stamps, Prince Charles' milestone birthday has been celebrated in a number of ways in recent weeks. The family are due to celebrate together on Wednesday night, when the Queen is expected to host a dinner for her son at Buckingham Palace.
