Prime Minister Narendra Modi Meets Former PM Manmohan Singh Outside Parliament Amid Row Over ‘Secret’ Meeting With Pakistani Envoy

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had levelled grave charges on Manmohan Singh, saying he along with Vice President Hamid Ansari held a three-hour secret meeting with Pakistan's high commissioner and country's former foreign minister.

New Delhi, Dec 13 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi and former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh greeted each other with folded hands outside Parliament on Wednesday. The two senior leaders shook hands as they came face to face during an event on the occasion of 2001 Parliament attack anniversary. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his predecessor Manmohan Singh had arrived at Parliament complex to pay tribute to security personnel who lost their lives in the 2001 Parliament attack. Congress President-elect Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and other top leaders also attended the event outside Parliament to pay respect to nine men who were killed in the attack.

The ‘awkward’ meeting between PM Modi and ex-PM Manmohan Singh came at a time when both the leaders are involved in a bitter war of words in the run up to Gujarat Assembly elections 2017. PM Modi had alleged Manmohan along with former Vice President Hamid Ansari held a three-hour secret meeting with Pakistan’s high commissioner and country’s former foreign minister.

An outraged Congress had rubbished PM Modi’s allegations. Manmohan Singh had also released a statement rubbishing PM Modi’s claims. “I am deeply pained and anguished by the falsehood and canards being spread to score political points in a lost cause by none less than Prime Minister, Sh. Narender Modi. Fearing imminent defeat in Gujarat, desperation of Prime Minister to hurl every abuse and latch on to every straw is palpable.”

The Congress party said that it was just an informal dinner.
