As hectic parleys are on in the national capital over the next Presidential candidate, both the treasury benches and Opposition side are busy strategising. The Opposition is slowly getting united under the chairmanship of Sonia Gandhi. In what can be seen as a precursor of the Opposition unity before 2019 general elections, JD-U chief Nitish Kumar is made the convenor of the front.
Sharad Yadav's name is doing the rounds as the Presidential nominee from the Opposition camp.
Though, Yadav himself is not giving a stamp on it, yet. In a special interview to India today, Sharad Yadav said, "The name of the Presidential nominee is not important, but what is important is the Opposition unity. We need to be united at this point of time and that is what we all are doing right now."
Meanwhile, Sonia Gandhi is also in touch with CPI-M boss Sitaram Yechury apart from JD-U chief Nitish Kumar. Contacts are also been made with the CPI. Meanwhile, contact is also being established with Mamata Banerjee of the TMC, who in turn is talking to the BJD. Sources tell India Today that Samajwadi Party is also been contacted. While Sonia Gandhi is talking to Mulayam Singh Yadav, it's upto her son Rahul Gandhi to talk to Akhilesh Yadav with whom he shares a good rapport.
Meanwhile, TRS has made the matter all the more complicated. It's MP Jitendra Reddy speaking to India Today said, "We will support the candidate who ever will work for the betterment of Telangana." This is in stark contrast of his earlier statement saying they will support the NDA candidate. Jitender Reddy maintained the candidate can be either from the Opposition or the NDA fold, but support will only be extended after due evaluation.
But, Sharad Yadav has alleged that Enforcement Directorate and CBI is being used to extract support from TRS. Jitender Reddy though has rubbished those allegations.
For now, its wait and watch game for both the camps. And its not only the Delhi summer that is heating up, but also the Presidential race that is witnessing quiet some heat.
