The curtain raiser of the much awaited 'Namami Brahmaputra' the biggest river festival in India kicked off amid much enthusiasm in Assam's Guwahati city as people from all walks of life gathered on the bank of the mighty river, to celebrate the essence of the Brahmaputra. President Pranab Mukherjee inaugurated the festival calling it the lifeline of the people of northeast.The festival began in 21 districts of Assam along the Brahmaputra in its entire stretch from Sadiya to Dhubri celebrating the existence of life-sustaining River. The most auspicious day begin with the 'Satraadhikars' from Satras of Assam gracing the eventful ceremony. The festival is being organised to showcase the trade, tourism and cultural possibilities of Assam along Brahmaputra River.'Naam Proxongo' accompanied by taal and khol marked the obeisance being paid to the mighty river by the Satraadhikars.
