Former President Pranab Mukherjee has announced that he will be penning a book detailing his experiences during his tenure as President of India from 2012 to 2017.
The announcement came just days after the former President made news with his speech during the third year event at the headquarters of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in Nagpur.
The announcement came from the Twitter handles of the former President as well as publishing house Rupa Publications on 13 June.
Pranab Mukherjee has penned three other books released by Rupa Publications titled The Coalition Years, The Dramatic Decade, and The Turbulent Years.
"After the spectacular success of The Coalition Years in 2017, Rupa Publications is delighted to announce a new book by former President, Pranab Mukherjee. Titled The Presidential Years, this would be the fourth book in the series." - Statement from Rupa Publications
Mukherjee’s Other Works With Rupa Publications
The Dramatic Decade focuses on Mukherjee’s time as a political activist during the 1970s.
Mukherjee draws from extracts of his personal diary, conversations with important political players in the seventies, and secondary literature which weaves a narrative of a complex nation facing Emergency and a Prime Minister who seemed more than reluctant to surrender the seat of power.
The Turbulent Years picks up shortly after The Dramatic Decade’s conclusion. It’s the 1980s.
Sanjay Gandhi is dead, Indira Gandhi is assassinated a few years later, and Rajiv Gandhi makes a hesitant ascent to the throne in the vacuum left by the deaths of the two political powerhouses. Mukherjee details the events of the 80s and 90s in an India that’s lost two leaders, and would lose a third soon after with Rajiv Gandhi’s assassination.
The Coalition Years begins at the end of The Turbulent Years, and details India’s torrid relationship with coalition politics. It covers the defeat of the Congress government, the rise of the Atal Bihari Vajpayee-led BJP government, and the return of the Congress government to power following the dethroning of the BJP-led NDA government.
"I’m delighted to be working with former Hon’ble Former President Pranab Mukherjee again. We are proud to publish the work of such an inspirational statesman and are eager to embark on this next phase of his extraordinary career." - Kapish Mehra, Managing Director, Rupa Publications
