Out of power: Mulayam Singh's Rs 4-lakh power bills unpaid

Uttar Pradesh's electricity department officials did a surprise check at former chief minister Mulayam Singh's residence in Etawah and found anomalies. They also found that a bill of Rs 4 lakh is pending.

The power connection was just of 5 kW but they were consuming 40 kW. Officials later changed it to 40 kW.

The Samajwadi Party leader has been given time till the end of the month to clear all dues.

His party had lost the recent Uttar Pradesh elections under the leadership of his son Akhilesh Yadav, who was elected SP's national president in place of his father by the party's national convention on 1 January this year.

While the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won 312 of the 403 seats, Samajwadi Party could only manage to win a mere 47.

New Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has already decided that district headquarters will get 24-hour power supply. They are working hard to meet the Centre's target of making the state energy efficient by 2018 and help in ensuring power in all UP villages before 2019.
