Resplendent in a saree with a bright shot of vermilion, TMC Lok Sabha member Nusrat Jahan had attended Durga puja celebrations of Suruchi Sangha in Kolkata with her husband on 6 October.
Jahan, the first-time MP from Bashirhat, has been in the line of fire from the Muslim clergy for bringing disrepute to the religion.
A video is now circulating on social media with the claim that it shows Jahan performing Dhunchui dance. Actor Paresh Rawal took to Twitter to reply to a tweet that showed the same video and claimed that the woman seen in the video is the Bengal MP.
Several social media users shared the video on Facebook and Twitter with the same claim.

TRUE OR FALSE?
The woman in the video is not TMC MP Nusrat Jahan but a professional Kathak dancer, Rashmi Mishra. She performed the Dhunchui dance in Mumbai on 6 October.
WHAT WE FOUND OUT
We searched on YouTube using keywords ‘Dhunuchi dance nusrat jahan’ and found a video that was uploaded on 8 October with the caption ‘Best Dhunuchi Naach Winner 2019’.
A user’s comment on the video suggested that the woman in the video is not Nusrat Jahan, but one Rashmi Mishra. The comment reads: “This is Powai and she’s Rashmi Mishra. Correct it now - this same clip is being circulated all over the WhatsApp university idiots as Nusrat Jahan. Stop Misleading People. (sic)”
Rashmi Mishra had posted the video on her Facebook timeline on 7 October with the caption: “Sharing my Dhunuchi Naach video of last night ie Saptami. My way of offering my prayers to Ma Durga.”
The text in the video mentioned that the video is from a function organised by Powai Bengal Welfare Association (PBWA) for the recently concluded Durga Puja festival.
