Posta Rangers survive as Nakumatt goes for play-offs in race to retain top flight status

Club chairman John Tonui confirmed the two will be part of coach Sammy ‘Pamzo’ Omollo plan for the new season

Posta Rangers will have Vihiga United to thank for their survival in the top tier league for next season.

Rangers escaped playing in relegation play-offs thanks to Vihiga United’s 2-0 win over Nakumatt at the Ruaraka Ground as the KPL season finally came to a close on Sunday.

This is after Posta Rangers played out to a stalemate with Kakamega Homeboyz to finish the season in 15th position, just two points above Nakumatt, who now dropped to 16th and will have to go through the play-offs to know their fate in the top tier next season.

Nakumatt just needed a 0-0 draw to survive but Melis Medo charges will now have to face either Ushuru or Nairobi Stima from the National Super League in the play-offs.

Posta Rangers’ saviors were Amos Kigadi and Michael Isabwa, who scored for Vihiga United in the win against Nakumatt. The Shoppers' bad day in office was compounded further after Nzoia Sugar registered a 2-0 win over AFC Leopards in the other match.

Nzoia Sugar’s win was the fourth defeat for Ingwe and second consecutive in the post-Rodolfo Zapata era. Meanwhile, a lucky Chemelil Sugar once again secured their places in the KPL on the final day despite a 1-1 draw against Kariobangi Sharks.
