Pondy adds 24 fresh cases to its COVID-19 tally

Puducherry, Feb 13 (PTI) Puducherry recorded 24 new coronavirus cases, taking the overall infection count to 39,440, the health department said on Saturday.

No fresh fatality was reported from any of the four regions in the union territory and number of fatalities remained 656.

Puducherry, Karaikal and Mahe reported a cumulative number of 24 cases during the last 24 hours.

A release from Director of Health and Family Welfare Services S Mohan Kumar said of the total new cases, Puducherry region accounted for 18, Karaikal two and Mahe four cases.

While there were 284 active cases, as many as 38,500 patients recovered and were discharged so far.

The Director said 24 patients recovered and were discharged in the last 24 hours from hospitals.

The new cases were identified at the end of examination of 2,582 samples.

The fatality and recovery rates in the union territory were 1.66 percent and 97.62 percent respectively.

The Director said as many as 6.03 lakh samples have been examined so far and it was found that 5.6 lakh out of them turned out to be negative.

Meanwhile, 5,256 health care and 254 front line workers have been vaccinated against COVID-19 so far in the Union Territory.

The official said February 20 has been fixed as the deadline for the health care and front line workers to get inoculated.

A compliance report should be submitted by the supervisory staff to the Department of Health, he said. PTI COR ROH ROH
