Politics over statues: Maharashtra Assembly witnesses noisy scenes over height of Shivaji statue
As the country witnesses high voltage politics over statues, Maharashtra Assembly too saw noisy scenes over the Shivaji memorial off Arabian sea.
The Opposition alleged that the State government has changed the design and reduced the height of the statue.
NCP leader Jayant Patil raising the issue in the lower house questioned the plans to change the design.
Congress leader Prithviraj Chavan also spoke on the statue of Shivaji.
The issue led to noisy scenes in the house and the house was adjourned for 10 minutes.
Replying to the allegation, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis denied any change in the design.
Meanwhile, BJP MLAs protested outside the Vidhan Bhavan premises over the issue alleging that the Opposition was deliberately politicising the issue.
"The Congress and NCP were in power for 15 years. They made hollow promises over Shivaji memorial in Arabian Sea. But the project only got momentum in our government. Within a few months, our government got all the environmental and other important clearances. The opposition is frustrated over the fact that they were not able to do it and now by politicising the issue, they are making an attempt to delay the project," BJP MLA Ashish Shelar alleged.
