Jaipur, Jul 20 (PTI) Two unidentified men snatched a private car from a police inspector and head constable and shot at the latter at a roadside dhaba in Sikar district of Rajasthan in the early hours of Tuesday, officials said.
The incident occurred under Ranoli police station at around 2.30 am when Inspector Narendra Khinchad and Head Constable Manendra Singh, both in plain clothes, halted at the dhaba for dinner. They were in a private car.
“Soon after they entered the dhaba, the two accused who were having tea there asked for the keys of their vehicle. When Manendra resisted, one of them opened fire at him and snatched the keys and took away the vehicle. The head constable received a bullet injury in the stomach and was operated upon,” Sikar SP Kunwar Rastradeep said.
The condition of the head constable is stable.
Khinchad is the in-charge of the district special team of Jaipur East.
“Different teams have been formed for identifying and locating the accused,” the SP said.
Meanwhile, the opposition BJP targeted the state government over the law and order situation.
BJP chief spokesperson Ramlal Sharma said there is no fear among criminals who are not sparing policemen now.
“Policemen were looted in Sikar which shows that the rule of law has ended in Rajasthan. This is not the first incident when policemen have been targeted. Policemen have been attacked in the past too by land mafia, liquor mafia and sand mafia,” he said. PTI SDA HDA
