Watch: Police find nine people inside unroadworthy Skoda
This is the extraordinary moment police stopped an uninsured and unroadworthy Skoda hatchback – and found nine people crammed inside.
Officers from North Yorkshire Police pulled over the Skoda Octavia in Norton, near Malton, after records showed it had no insurance.
But bodycam footage captured the moment the officers approached the motor as nine people got out.
Six people were found crammed into the car as the driver and a front seat passenger were joined by five people in the back seat.
However, as the individuals were being rounded up, footage shows a passenger opening the boot to reveal another two people hiding.
Police footage showed people crawling out of the car which officers said would have caused "utter carnage" should it have crashed.
Officers then discovered two of the car doors would not open and one of the front tyres was so bald the inner cord was visible.
A force spokesman said: “If it had been involved in a collision, the consequences don’t bear thinking about. It would have caused absolute carnage.”
The vehicle was seized and the driver was reported for dangerous driving and having no insurance.
The spokesman added: “We’re continuing our targeted road safety deployments throughout the summer and beyond, to keep everyone safe and take illegal drivers and vehicles off the road.”
