Prime Minister Narendra Modi has suggested LK Advani’s name for the next President of India, Zee News reported, quoting sources. His name reportedly came up in a BJP meeting in Gujarat’s Somnath.

Advani has become less visible in politics since the BJP came to power in 2014. Reports cited a rift between Advani and the party members, as the senior leader wanted the post of prime minister which was given to Modi.

According to Zee News, Modi said he will pay “guru dakshina” (teacher’s fee) to Advani.

The 89-year-old BJP leader started his political career as a volunteer for the RSS and is one of the main accused in the Babri Masjid demolition case. Between 1998-2004, he served as the country’s home minister. During Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s regime, he was the deputy prime minister.

Advani was dropped from the BJP Parliamentary Board and included in the Marg Darshak Mandal of the BJP along with Murli Manohar Joshi and Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
