Here are the top headlines of the hour:
1. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the much-awaited Atal Tunnel in Rohtang, Himachal Pradesh today. It is the world's longest highway tunnel. After inaugurating the tunnel, PM Narendra Modi took a look around the South Portal of the tunnel which opens in Manali. Border Roads Organisation (BRO) officials are brief PM Modi about the key features of the world's longest tunnel constructed at over 10,000 ft altitude.
"After construction of this tunnel at the height of 10,040 feet, Himachal Pradesh, a small state, has got recognition not only in the nation but in the whole world. There is no other tunnel of this length at this height" said Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur.
2. Hathras gang-rape case: The district administration has finally allowed media on October 3 to enter the village of the victim of Hathras gang-rape incident. Since October 1 media were not allowed to go inside the village or meet the family members of the victim. Police personnel were also deployed at the entrance of Bulgaddhi village.
The 19-year-old girl died at Delhi's Safdarjung hospital on September 29, a fortnight after being gang-raped by four men. The victim was shifted to Delhi after her condition worsened. All the four accused in the crime have been arrested by the police.
While speaking to the media, Sadar Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Prem Prakash said, "According to SIT their probe in the village is complete or partially complete. The restrictions on media inside the village has now been lifted. More than five media persons are not allowed to gather as Section 144 of CrPC is in place."
3. Hathras gangrape case: Unfortunately what we have seen is politics now hijacking the focus from what is essentially a law and order complete failure. First, it was nothing else but by stealth, the body was cremated following which we have great injustice meted out to the family as they are being locked up and away from media's glare.
Meanwhile, the Congress MPs under the leadership of former Congress President Rahul Gandhi, are all set to again make an attempt to enter Hathras. They are going to be leaving to meet the grieving family today. Will they be allowed to enter this time?
4. Bihar Assembly Election 2020: The BJP-LJP seat sharing formula is likely to be done. Chirag Paswan will be meeting Home Minister Amit Shah again. The NDA allies are expected to announce their seat-sharing arrangement in the next couple of days and the BJP’s Central Election Committee is expected to meet either today or tomorrow to finalise its candidates for the three-phased polls.
However, the LJP has threatened that the party will contest on 143 of the total 243 seats if it is not given an “honourable” deal by its allies. In 2015, Chirag Paswan’s party contested on 42 seats and won two. The JD (U) back then was part of the Opposition, which clinically defeated the NDA alliance.
