PM Modi distressed to see rioting in U.S. Capitol by pro-Trump protesters

According to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, when he expressed shock at the storming of the US Capitol in Washington by supporters of outgoing President Donald Trump, the democratic process cannot be subverted by illegal protests. In a tweet, PM Modi said, "Orderly and peaceful transfer of power must continue,"

As pro-Trump protesters tore down barricades outside the Capitol and swarmed inside as the legislators were counting Electoral College votes to certify the election win of President-elect Joe Biden and Vice-President-elect Kamala Harris, the US Capitol had to be locked down on Wednesday. Amidst the chaotic scenes, a person was shot dead inside the US Capitol, reports said.

Unverified videos showed crowds of pro-Trump rioters breaking windows, scaling rafters, destroying U.S. flags, and wandering the chamber of the Senate. According to the Washington Post, lawmakers were ordered to pick up gas masks as police deployed tear gas inside the Rotunda, the ornate area under the dome that connects the House and the Senate.
