In pictures: Easter celebrations around the world

Christians around the world are marking the Holy Week, commemorating the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, leading up to his resurrection on Easter. The celebrations open with the Easter Vigil mass that begins on Holy Saturday evening. Thousands of people attend the Papal Mass in St. Peter’s Square in the Vatican City, Italy. Easter customs vary in different parts of the world. According to the Christian faith, Jesus rose from the dead on Easter Sunday, symbolizing death is not the end but rather a new beginning. Here are images from around the world of Easter celebrations.
