'With each challenge we grew closer': Husband's poignant photos show wife's cancer fight
When Jennifer Merendino was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008, her devoted husband Angelo documented every stage of her battle against the terrible disease.
Jennifer was dealt the cruel blow just five months after the pair got married in September 2007.
Photographer Angelo captured every step of her diagnosis, treatment and struggle, right up until her tragic passing in December 2011, aged 40.
Angelo said he wanted to 'humanise the face of cancer' through his hugely poignant and emotional series of photographs.
Describing his images, Angelo said: 'They show the challenge, difficulty, fear, sadness and loneliness that we faced, that Jennifer faced, as she battled this disease. Most important of all, they show our Love. These photographs do not define us, but they are us.'
A book of Angelo's photos, 'The Battle We Did Not Choose, My Wife's Fight With Breast Cancer' has been released as an eBook for the iPad as well as a PDF. 50 per cent of book sales will be donated to The Love You Share foundation, a non-profit organisation which provides financial assistance to women in need while they are receiving treatment for breast cancer.
